After saying their goodbyes to the chef, the couple and Faye made their way back out to the car before taking off in the direction of the house.
"So what'd you think?" Lain asked still seeing a large grin stuck on Faye's face.
"Can we come back again soon?!" She asked excitedly bouncing in her seat. Clearing someone had eaten too much cake by the way she couldn't sit still.
"So your alright with coming back out in public with us again?" Mallix checked.
And without even needing time to think it through Faye just nodded her head. "So can we?!" She asked again brushing past the seriousness to Mallix's question.
Chuckling at her excitement, Lain smirked as she replied. "We'll see about that. Maybe we could come back here after you pass your final."
Neither of the couple knew what had happened, but the minute those few words slipped out of Lain's mouth Faye's entire being seemed like it was shutting down.
She couldn't have had a sugar crash yet, her rush had barely just begun. But the smile that was once on her face was replaced with a blank look just gazing out of her window. Although, she still couldn't sit still as she tapped her fingers against the arm rest besides her repeatedly.
Despite the constant pitter patter that was coming from the back, the couple didn't dare say anything as they instead looked to one another in complete shock. They had no clue what to make of her sudden change.
"Did I say something wrong, Faye?" Lain asked in a worried voice but the girl just shook her head as her gaze never left the world outside. "Are you sure? You were more excited than we've ever seen you only a few seconds ago, and now you look like you've just had the worst day of your life."
"No I had a good time. Thanks for that by the way, but I just want to get back to my room." Faye assured them that their time at the restaurant had no attachment to her current mood, but that didn't help the couple one bit.
Not only could they not get Faye to tell them what was wrong, but now the prime reason that they had suspected was confirmed to be wrong.
As he stared through the rear view mirror between watching the road, Mallix couldn't bring himself to interrupt the small girl. Faye seemed to be deep into her own thoughts.
Instead of letting the thick air continue to suffocate the car, Mallix instead turned his stereo up slightly letting some of the melodies that were playing ease the tension.
Once he pulled up through the gate and into their garage, Faye was quick to jump out before taking off in the direction of her room as the front door had already been open when one of the house guards walked out to assist them.
"What's her deal?" Mallix quickly turned to his wife before either of them stepped out.
"Beats me." She shrugged.
"She was fine earlier."
"You make like I didn't know that babe. Did I say something wrong when we were leaving the restaurant?"
"What? No I don't think so. You were just saying that we might go back after Faye passes her final. I don't see what's wrong with that."
"Me neither. But clearing something happened. Otherwise she wouldn't have reacted the way she did."
"Well then let's just go talk to her." He suggested knowing fully well that was going to be one of the harder options.
Before they could get further into the matter, the guard that had walked out to assist them had knocked upon Lain's door. Sighing as she dropped her window for him, the couple put their conversation on pause.
