After arriving at her home with a black metal gate surrounded by tall trees for as far as the eye could see, Lain drove up her long driveway and parked into the garage of her modern looking mansion with four floors.
Outside of her home stood two men. Both with big and bulky arms. She greeted the guards to her home politely before passing them by.
As she stepped into her home the woman shouted out loud for her husband. With the matter at hand she needed to speak to him urgently.
Passing through their living room on the bottom floor with one-way windows films, she was searching left and right for any sign of her husbands whereabouts.
The leather seats in front of the mounted tv where he would normally be sitting were instead empty. "Mallix!" She shouted more aggressively than before as she stormed her way through the rest of the bottom floor that consisted of a large open marble kitchen and a matching dining room.
When the floor remained silent, she rushed her way up the spiral staircases onto the second floor. With more of an alive feeling to it, the floor was instead bright and airy.
With grand windows stretching as long as the wall allowing a gentle glow from the suns rays inside, light colored wooden floors paired with bright colored furniture, and lots of open space the woman called again. "Mallix!"
Unlike before, however, she did hear a faint response back to her.
While both her and her husband loved the space their mansion provided, especially when meetings had to take place here, they both despised the effort that went into hunting one another down.
Calling for him again, Lain listened even more carefully. While her keen hearing made his voice clear, his location was still undetermined. Following the source of his voice through the floor that held different offices and meeting rooms, Lain made her way up the next flight of stairs as well.
The bright and open space continued on, but rather than passing by work rooms, the woman was passing by bedrooms that housed nobody.
"Mallix?" She called out hopefully for the last time.
"Lain, I'm in here!" Finally his voice rung out crystal clear. "I'm in our room!"
Sighing as she finally got his location, the woman walked quickly towards their bedroom that sat at the end of a long hallway pass all of the empty guest rooms.
Rather than getting a smaller home fit for the two of them, the couple did enjoy having their own space whenever they wanted. Not to mention having extra guest rooms was crucial when long meetings arose.
Pushing open her double doors, Lain's eyes popped and jaw dropped when saw her husband sitting at a wooden desk in the corner with paperwork all around him. But that wasn't what made her shock level rise—instead it was the fact that she found him surrounded by nearly twenty packets of blood completely devoured all on the floor.
"Babe?" She walked over slowly. It was an odd behavior for her husband to consume so much blood in one sitting.
While it wasn't a rare occasion for vampires to enjoy the sweet and savory taste of the thick red liquid to help satisfy their unquenchable thirst, it was unsettling to see the number of empty bags on the floor.
Especially with the consequences that came with consuming so much.
The human blood within their pre-made drinkable pouches was good for many things. Good for fulfilling their thirst for blood, good for helping them in times of healing, and good for keeping their perfect skin smooth—but when too much is consumed in one sitting the consequences are dire.
