After what seemed like another hour of peaceful silence between them, Nina and Lauren had finally made it.
Nina smiled proudly to herself as she stood right at the edge of her surprise.
"Alright Lauren. We're here." She announced to the small girl on her hip who had just been released from the doctors hut.
While Lauren whimpered slightly not wanting to move from the nice dark spot in the woman's neck, she did have her curiosity to motivate her.
And as she slowly slid out of Nina's neck, Lauren gasped as her eyes met the most beautiful scene she had ever seen. Not to mention it was one that she hadn't seen in a long time.
"No." She breathed out while covering her jaw dropped mouth. Her eyes became glassy as a strong mix of emotions washed through her.
The scene was breathtaking.
While they may have been standing on the edge of a cliff, the blissful sounds of the crystal clear waterfall that was pouring over the edge echoed out through the open forest below them.
At the bottom of the cliff, Lauren could see trees standing for as far as her eye could see. It was almost magical to hear the waterfall behind all the sounds of nature around them.
But the spot that most interested the small blond girl was the large patch of grass besides the river on top of the cliff. With a small amount of the cool water crashing onto the grass, Lauren smiled when she saw the same woven basket and fur hide from her childhood.
"I hope you're hungry because you and I are about to have ourselves a nice picnic. Just the two of us." Nina chuckled as she walked over to the soft hide next to the river.
"Is this really happening?!" Lauren looked up amazed before she bounced right back up the moment Nina set her down on the hide.
She took off running around the open grassy field that overlooked more of the woods below them where trees filled the valley.
Nina smiled as she rolled her eyes and sat while she pulled out a slab of meat from the basket. "Come sit and eat Laur. You and I can run around afterwards."
"But this is too fun! I missed coming here!" She squealed running around with her arms spread wide. She started flapping them the same way the birds flying above her did.
"I know but I don't want this meat to go bad. Besides it's already been sitting here for a while and who knows what other animals have caught on to its scent. I'd rather eat this now while it's good, instead of leaving it for another few minutes and come to find some other animal snatched our lunch."
Frowning when the woman made her point, Nina watched as Lauren dropped her arms and ran over before plopping right besides her.
After grabbing out the side dishes from the basket, the woman proceeded to place their pieces of meat on two flattened slabs of rocks that she had packed. While Nina had an entire piece to herself, Lauren noticed how hers was already cut up into thin slivers just like how she likes it.
Grabbing hold of the slivers of meat in front of her, Lauren went all in. Using both hands to eat the delicious food, she looked liked she had been starved by how desperately she was gnawing on her meat while eating the occasional side dish every now and then.
Not wanting to disrupt her passionate eating, Nina just dug into hers.
"Do you think we can come back again to do this?!" Lauren asked with sparkles all over her eyes as meat hung from her mouth.
"I don't see why not."
"It feels like so long since we were last here." The blond girl pointed out.
