"Is she able to leave now?" Back in the village buried high within the mountains, Nina was quietly talking to the doctor outside of her small hut.

With a worried look, Nina had her fingers crossed. She was tapping her foot anxiously just waiting to see what the doctor had to say as she observed a clipboard in her hands filled with what looked like scribbles.

"Hm..." the woman pondered as she flipped through her various paperwork regarding Lauren's condition. "Yeah I'd say she's good to leave now."

Silently pumping her fists with excitement, Nina smiled largely. "So I can take her back to the cave?!" She said over enthusiastically.

And as soon as the doctor nodded with approval, Nina bursted back into her hut. However, she sadly took a glance down at the man laid out on a wooden table in the corner with his eyes peacefully shut.

She froze just staring at his body that was slowly gaining some color back to it.

"He's out again?" She sighed.

"Yeah. Although I think he's getting better, he was up for nearly six hours yesterday." The doctor said with a somewhat hopeful tone.

Ever since his return, Alex had been going in and out of consciousness. And even though Nina and doctor had been doing everything in their power to help him, the poor man was just slipping in and out of consciousness like a madman.

Luckily they had been able to treat all of his open injuries, but as far as being bitten goes, not even the doctor knew how to treat it.

Sure she could easily identify the bite mark, thanks to her practice with Luke, but figuring out a way to reverse its affects proved to be harder than expected.

While there were some suggestions from her old books, the doctor just couldn't seem to be able to solve the puzzle. Their last healer who had treated a vampire bite was lost nearly a century ago.

They had lost their touch.

"Have you figured out what we're going to do about this yet?" The doctor asked.

"I'm working on it. If those Fanger's think they can just get away with biting another one of our own then they're out of line. First we lose Luke to a bite, then one of our guards gets his hand bitten, and now we have Alex. They've broken our code three times within the past few months, trust me something is going to happen." Nina ensured.

"Well if there's anything that I can do, you know where to find me. In the meantime I know someone's been excited for today. She couldn't stop talking about it last night." The woman looked towards her bedroom door in the back of the hut.

"Thanks again for making sure everything was okay with her."

"It was my pleasure. Although I am going to miss you coming in here every night."

"Really? Why?"

"Cause I won't get to listen to you sing her to sleep anymore. You know, if I wasn't working every time you came here I think I would've fallen asleep too."

Nina managed to chuckle. "I won't be gone long. Whenever Alex gets into a more stable condition and he's awake, I'll be back to keep him company as well."

"Well then I'll look forwards to it." The doctor smiled before returning to her work bench.

Taking one final glance at the poor man laying with bandages wrapped all over his body, Nina shook her head. She didn't know what had happened that night, but whatever occurred, she regretted sending Alex to face it.

But there was nothing more she could do for him. She had already helped the doctor for several days now looking for a cure for the black toxin they could see pumping through his veins.
