While the wolves traveled back through the earthy terrain leading back to their village with their human captives, back inside of the security of city limits there was someone who laid wide awake at night as an emergency call came through.

Groaning as she turned onto her side and threw her soft silk pillow over her head, Lain refused to listen to the non-stopping blaring noise coming from the small box next to her bed.

Refusing to get out of her comfortable and warm position in her cozy sheets, Lain struggled to fall back asleep while the sound of an alarm continued blazing through the entire mansion.

But regardless of how loud it was, even her husband at the other end of the bed didn't budge.

When finally the sound of the call fell silent she cheered to herself as part of her lips raised up slightly as her heavy eyes fell back down. After enduring all of that it was finally time for her to rest.

Just as her mind was about to lose itself to the darkness of night, again the blazing noise echoed through her room.

Fighting it off even harder than before, Lain pressed her pillow harder upon her head trying desperately to drown out the noise but eventually the endless sounds of ringing became too much.

Jumping out of bed as her fangs extended out, the woman hissed as she answered the line. "What do you want?! Do you not see the time! I am trying to sleep!"

"Um...Lain?" A familiar voice called out. One that should've made her tense muscles settle down but instead she was just ready to tear someone's head off.

"What do you want James?! I said I was trying to sleep!"

"Alright, hey, I'm sorry but this is more important." He defended as he yawned himself.

Sighing as she rubbed her eyes with large bags under them, Lain exhaled sharply. "Just tell me what it is already so I can go back to bed." She slumped back down onto her bed as her heavy head fell hard onto her pillow.

"Remember those guys we had looking around the city for any lone vampires?"

The instant his question was asked the woman was no longer sleepy. Not even tired for that matter. She shot right back out of her bed as the seriousness to the conversation she was about to have dawned upon her.

"Of course I remember them. Did they find anything?! Do we have any leads?" She eagerly asked.

"Well you see...do you want the good news first? Or the bad news?" The way his voice lingered with the second option only made it more intriguing.

"Give me the bad news first."

After hearing her brother-in-law taking a few deep breathes to himself for a minute, there was a tickle in his throat as his voice became hoarse. "They didn't find anybody." He muttered softly.

Hanging her head with disappointment the woman in charge couldn't bare to bind herself to the confines of her room for a conversation as such.

After throwing on a silk robe as she just listened to James ramble on about the excuses that her detectives had given him, she'd have enough. "So after all this time, not one of them was even able to get a hint of their trail?!" She demanded to know as she moved to the top floor of the mansion where she sat on the soft cushion of her couch.

"Well now see that was apart of the good news that I was going to tell you after." James said with a perked up tone. "They didn't find any leads while they were looking into everyone's file on hand, but what they did manage to find was that every one of us have been accounted for."
