Were they too late or was the universe really against them? Would they have succeeded if they tried harder than this?

Jungkook doesn't have an answer to calm his wild thoughts. He can't seem to tame the ruckus in his soul about the inability to fulfil his promise as a leader and as a brother. He failed.

"W-why? I asked you to wait for me. Why did you join your mate Hyung? W-why?"

The true alpha's head buried between his arms as his forehead was kissing the floor. He sobbed and let out his heartfelt cry breaking the silence in the room. No one apart from Jungkook could react as they watched and couldn't understand if this is a reality or just an unwanted nightmare.

"J-jungkook? Calm down please." Jimin's tears have stained his cheeks as it overflowed to wet his collar and sleeves which he continuously used to wipe his eyes dry.

"Hyung? J-joonie is a liar! H-he left me too!" Jungkook clenched onto the silver head's shirt desperate as a child throwing his tantrum for attention. He is very mad and upset.

"Shh, calm down Jungkook. W-we need to look through thoroughly." Jimin is the only one who seems to be talking some sense as Yoongi's hands were tied with an overly exhausted Hoseok who continued to remain stoic in a corner as hours of attending to Namjoon and Jin made him emotionally drained.

Yoongi knew that his mate needed him the most at this time hence he allowed Hoseok to cling to him while Jimin took charge to console the younger male who is in a desperate state. He is the second in command, after all, taking care of Jungkook's well being is his duty as the warrior beta of the Shadow Pack.

Then how about Taehyung?

Well, the brown head was speechless and motionless. He came running to the room and he remained in his position, eyes glued to the lifeless bodies on the bed.

I failed. I did a terrible mistake. I shouldn't have left. I did this to them.

It chanted like a broken spell in Taehyung's mind. He was petrified and convinced that this is his fault. As an ace healer, he failed his friends and family. He is useless.

Jungkook's cry ringed in his ears like a painful yelp, his heart clenched with the sight of his mate losing control. He could see how Jungkook struggled earlier in the duel and at the forest allowing his true blood to surface and force his wolf to a become a monster. Taehyung can't feel the burden between their mate bond as he is not a human-wolf like Jungkook who naturally has a more possessive instinct.

The brown head was feeling anguish to comfort the trembling head alpha. He wants Jungkook to cling onto him and cry his heart out. Taehyung wants to be able to save Namjoon and Jin, reverse the poison as he did to Mr Jeon and make everyone happy. The only truth is, he doesn't think so he can do it.

How am I suppose to do this? I can't bring someone back to life. I might be able to heal wounds and recuperate an unconscious person, but I can't fucking bring back someone to life.

Taehyung looked at the palms of his hands as his tears dropped onto them receiving the sorrow on the surface of his palm. Just like how Jungkook's tears flow like a river, Taehyung's did too in a silent manner.

Unconsciously, Taehyung took a few brave steps and approach the pair who were laying dead on the bed as he climbed to sit between their bodies.

Tae looked at the males on his left and right and apologized to them for not being able to save their lives. He shouldn't have run away, he should have stayed. Maybe things would have been a lot different then.

"I-I'm so sorry Hyung. I failed to save your mate. Your love." Taehyung's left hand held Namjoon's as the blue head laid on his left.

"I'm sorry Jin Hyung for not saving your mate and you." He then moved to hold Jin's right hand in his.
