"That son of a bitch," I curse as I throw out all of the bugs Fury has placed in Steve and my apartment. "Thank God nothing ever happened between us," I mumble.
"Maeve," I hear Steve's panicked voice through my earpiece. I had put my black and violet suit on forty minutes ago as I am planning to go to S.H.E.I.L.D. even though I know it has been compromised. "Where are you?"
"I'm about to leave the apartment to go to headquarters," I respond, grabbing my house key.
"Don't come here," He tells me and I hear glass breaking and I know he must have jumped out of the building.
"Steve, what's happening?" I ask, worried.
"Meet me at the hospital," Steve tells me.
"Steve?" I say uneasily.
"Hospital, okay?" He repeats more firmly.
"Okay," I hang up the phone before making sure I have everything I need. I quickly grab the locket with the pictures of Steve and Bucky and put it in my leather jacket. I put it on over my suit and run out of my apartment as I tie my hair up into a ponytail.

I chew gum as I walk up behind Steve as he stares at the vending machine in the hospital. He wears black sweatpants and a dark-blue hoodie to disguise himself.
"You really thought I hid it in there?" I ask him. He turns around, grabs me, and pushes me back into a storage closet.
"Where is it?" He asks me after pushing me against the wall.
"Safe," I tell him.
"What's on it?" Steve asks.
"You're very two-faced, you know that?" I say.
"What's on it?" He sternly repeats.
"I don't know," I answer.
"Stop lying," He says.
"I may be an excellent manipulator, and I may have come up with ten different ways to get you off of me," I look down at his lips before meeting my two different colored eyes at his blue with a hint of green ones. "But, I've never lied to you."
"Why should I believe you?" He asks me. "You told me earlier that you're an "excellent" liar."
"You grew up with me, Steve," I remind him. "You should know if you trust me by now."
"Do you know if Fury hired the pirates?" He asks me after a few seconds of trying to read my face. Except, I'm the better one at reading people.
"I figured," I honestly say. "The ship was dirty, Fury needed a way in and so do you."
"You're still working for him after these past two years?" He asks me.
"You are too," I point out.
"I'm not as deep," Steve says.
"Fine, I'm married to my job as an agent," I shrug.
"So, you should know," Steve slits his eyes at me.
"Nat told me who killed Fury," I catch the other super-soldier by surprise. "Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists. But, the ones who do call him The Winter Soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last fifty years."
"Nat told you about him or do you know him?" Steve asks me.
"I've heard the stories, but I never faced him like Natasha," I say. "I didn't know who that man was that we saw until she told me about The Winter Soldier. I believe that was him."
