Chapter 24: Unfair

[Hayama's Point of View]

It just smelled like white grape wine, maybe I'm just anxious. I quickly drank the wine, surprisingly it tasted great more than I thought. Nothing happened to me...

I expected that she'll give us poison or what, but I must be mistaken. (L/N) giggled and pressed something on the remote control she was holding.

 

"We'll provide the main ingredients such as spice and meat. But I'll be leaving the rest to you. Satte~ An hour to finish your steak dish!" (L/N) said while looking at us. "Start!" she yelled and the timer started running.

I immediately went to take some spices but then stopped when I heard one of the participants screamed. We all looked at him as he was gripping the bowl he was holding.

 

"I can't... I can't smell nor taste anything." he said.

 

"Tch, I thought it was something--" the other noir froze while staring shocked at his bowl. "I can't smell anything too." he said as we started sniffing the spices we took.

 

'But... I can smell something.'

Murmurs filled the hall until it was broken by a giggle. We turned our heads to look at (L/N). "I don't know why but you guys are amusing~"

 

"Queen. Are you behind this?" they asked.

 

"Nah-uh. In cooking, I don't resort to dirty tricks. It's probably Asahi." she replied as I clenched my fist.

  

"It's temporary." Sarge added while looking at us. "A certain substance is mixed with your drink."

"This is unfair! Why would you do this?" I asked while glaring at her.

 

"If you can't cook without relying on your sense of smell and taste, then you're not fit to be one of the generals." Don Calma said before sighing.

 

"We don't need weak noirs." Sarge added. "You better give up now or your punishment later will be harsher."

I noticed that half of us lined up towards Sarge. This is unfair! I was about to approach them but someone pulled my hand. It was (L/N), the Queen of Noirs.

 

"You still have a mission to complete. Are you going to give it up and be sent to another country?" she asked.

Surprisingly, her voice and her hand were warm and soothing. But I remembered that she was our enemy, so I yanked my hand away from her. "Excuse me." I replied turning back to my work.

I saw in my peripheral vision that she was going to approach me again, she was stretching her hand out to me but hesitated.

Alice got bored waiting so she dragged Kurokiba, Hisako and Kuga to play a game of cards with her. Erina was pacing back and forth making Soma dizzy.

 

"It's been half an hour, I still can't contact Hayama." Eizan said while typing something on his laptop.

 

"I hope he's fine." Takumi said while his arms were crossed.

 

"H-H-Hayama-kun..." Megumi was panicking. She was repeatedly writing the character 'man' on her palm and pretends to swallow it.
