Doctor Visits

Later, I hear Willow and Peeta come home, then the bedroom door slam open. "Sorry mommy." Willow says.

"It's okay baby. How was school?"

"Good. My burfday is in this meny days!" She holds up five fingers.

"Yep, and how old will you be baby?"

"Four!" She screams in delight. I slowly stand to pick her up, but I end up almost dropping her. I just felt weak and light headed for a moment.

"Baby you okay?" I ask her.

"Yeah... I-"

"Katniss!" I hear Peeta call for me down stairs, so I take willows hand and we walk downstairs only I keep tripping with every step.

When I get down stairs Peeta hands her her medicine and goes to the dining room where Peeta has bought Pizza,from the near by Italian store that had jut opened across from Peeta's bakery, and walks into the kitchen and asks me to follow.

"Why is this still here?" He holds the sandwich he has made earlier.

I try to come up with an excuse, but I can't find one because there isn't one. Its simple, I didn't eat.  "Peeta-"

"Katniss, is there something you aren't telling me, baby you can tell me anything."

"No." I lie,"Nothing babe.''

"Kat I can't help you if you won't let me in."

"I am fine! Let's eat." I call for Willow and we eat diner as a family, but some how after that I find myself back in bed. And now I know. The darkness has returned, and it doesn't plan on leaving anytime soon.

The next morning is hectic trying to get everyone ready for the doctor appointments. We pack food, blakents, extra clothes for accidents, and medication.

The ultrasound was originally going to be first, but Willow's accidentally got scheduled for the same time so Peeta would take willow to hers and they would come join me later after they finish.  

"Hello Mrs. Mellark."

"Hi Doctor."

"Okay todays exam will cover a physical, ultrasound, and some blood work. Ready to start?"

A physical. No, I can't have one, she will see what has happened to me, I could end up in the hospital. Or on ten types of drugs and that will all bring back those painful memories of being in 13. Were prim and finnick were alive and so were many more.

"Mrs Mellark?" She calls me back to reality," Can you please take your jacket and shirt off?"

I slowly do as I am asked and lay down on the table, then I lift up my shirt and the doctor let's out a gasp as she looks at my stomach and see's my ribs."Katniss!"

The way she said it reminded me of Effie. Her high pitched voice.

"Katniss sit up please. We need to talk."

*Peeta's POV*

Soon after Katniss and I split up we are called into Willow's Doctor Ramirez room. She has been willows doctor since she was one.

"Willow. Mr.Mellark, nice to see you"

"Hi!" Willow says.  I just smile and nod.

"Okay well today Willow we are just going to have a check up, okay sweetie?"

"Okay" she playfully says. Can my baby get any  sweeter?  Dr.Ramirez checks her lungs and pulse, talked about her about how she thinks her medicine works, and how she is at school. Then Dr.R calls for a nurse to take willow to the play area. This must be something serious.

"I didn't want willow to hear this." She says.

"Its fine.''

"Well Mr. Mellark, Willows right lung still isn't functioning the way I would like it too, so I want to start her on a nebulizer, its like an inhaler-"

I shake my head, so she stops,"Thank you for the option, but she is on so much already, and I don't want to overwhelme her even more than she already is."

She smiles."I understand, but if it doesn't clear up by her fifth birthday she will have to be put on it, if she wants to live to see her double digits."

"Thank you, but she is like her mom. Strong, stubborn, and kind. She will make it."

"Okay. But I have one more thing to share."

"Please continue."

"There is a clinical study that Willow could be in. It could possibly a cure,for the hemophilia, here read this and call me when you are ready to discuss." She hands me a pamphlet and I put in in my back pocket and say goodbye.

I edit the room and go to the play room section to find my baby and she runs to me.

"Are we going for mommy now?!" She asks.

"Yes pumpkin. But you will have to wait with the kids for a while then we will bring you in." We walk to the other side of the hospital  drop willow off and enter Katniss' examination room. She is crying.

"Babe?"

"Peeta!" She opens her arms for me so I sit next to her and wrap her in mine.

"What's happening? Is the baby okay?!''

"Barely. And your wife is sick, Mr.Mellark."

"Katniss?"

"Peeta... The baby is dying ." She cries.
