Chapter 19
Louise’s P.O.V
A pang of remorse runs through me as I watch Harry’s usually tall and confident stature disappear. My eyes flash up to his, and I notice that the bright gleam that once shone in his eyes, vanishes. As the heavy weight of guilt begins to weigh onto me, I open my mouth in an attempt to explain myself, but I’m interrupted when the loud slam of a car door rings through my ears. My heartbeat picks up rapidly, sending me into panic. Looking past Harry, I see the lengthy silhouette of Luke walking up to my doorstep. I watch as he nervously rubs his hands over his shirt, looking down at the barely wrinkled material. When he finally looks up, he stops, and my heart quickens. What is he going to do? I ask myself, my mind racing with the possibilities. Holding my breath, I wait for Luke or Harry to react. Luke finally brings himself to the door, standing slightly behind Harry. His nervous composure has evaporated, and he now holds himself in a tense, but polite sort of way. “I’m Luke” he finally says, breaking the silence.
As if on cue, Harry drops the bouquet of flowers at his feet, and he looks me dead in the eye. Turning on his heel, sends a dangerous glare towards Luke, and storms back to his truck, without a word. Still stuck in place, my heart drops as I hear Harry’s truck start and speed down the street. I slowly reach down and pick up the flowers, and place them on the table just inside of the door. I walk back to the open door, and look at Luke. “I..I’m sorry about that” I say, breaking eye contact and looking down at the floor. “It’ll be alright, whatever it is.” Luke says smiling, and crouching down to look at me. “Come on, let’s go get your mind off of it” He says, playfully nudging my arm. Still caught up in what had just happened, I finally bring my gaze back up to Luke’s beautiful blue eyes, boring into mine, and convince myself to go with him.
