I walk into history class the next day with more than enough energy. Tonight was the party at the falls, aka my first high school party. I sit down next to Elena while Mr. Tanner starts talking about The Battle of Willow Creek. I already read all about it in the museum so I wasn't really listening until Mr. Tanner asked a question that literally no one knew the answer to. When he asked Elena I kept mouthing the answer to her but she just want getting it. "I'm sorry, I- I don't know..."

"I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excused ended with summer break." I hate this teacher.

"Dick..." I mumbled under my breath.

"What was that Nora?" Mr. Tanner said looking at me accusingly. I stayed still. Did he hear what I said? "Unless it was the answer, you shouldn't be speaking."

"There were 346 casualties... unless you're counting civilians." Stefan said, ultimately saving my ass from further punishment.

"That's correct. Mr...."

"Salvatore."

"Salvatore? Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?"

"Distant..." Stefan said hesitantly.

"Well, very good. Except of course there were no civilian casualties in this battle." Mr. Tanner said, proudly.

Okay that's it. "Actually, there were 27 civilian casualties." I said.

"Yeah, Confederate soldiers fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. Of course they were wrong." Stefan added on. "It was a night of great loss."

"The founders archives are stored in Civil Hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, Mr. Tanner." I say innocently. Stifled laughs could be heard throughout the classroom. I look to Stefan and give him a subtle high five.

Elena and I walk out of class together. "Okay, your new boyfriend is awesome."

"He's not my boyfriend, Nora." Elena says.

"Well then you better bag him soon!" I say. "I've gotta get to English class, but remember, the party tonight is going to be the prime 'asking out' setting!"

She laughs. "Okay, okay. See you at lunch."

Later that day, when school is finally over, I'm up in my room trying to decide what to wear. I need something that says 'mature' but also 'stay the fuck away from me I'm only 14'. I decide to wear my denim jacket, a red skirt, a simple white t shirt, and my combat boots in case I need to kick anybody in the shins. I look in the mirror and decide to wear shorts underneath since I'm riding my bike there. I don't really put any makeup on because I can't do makeup for my life.

I get on my bike and ride to Charlie's house. He's wearing jeans, a white t shirt and a jacket. "Way to copy me, Nora."

"Says the person who didn't bother brushing his hair." I smirk as we both got on our bikes and rode to the falls. When we got there, it was packed with people. "I'm gonna get us each a drink and then let's go into the woods before any of my sister's friends see us here."

"Okay." Charlie says, following me to the drinks. I grab us each a cup of the spiked punch and we walk into the woods. I hand him the cup and he takes a sip. "This is actually not bad..."

"Hmm, You're right..." I say, taking a sip. At first I though the punch would taste like sweat and vomit because those are the two things that define a high school party, but it honestly wasn't bad. We heard some voices somewhere else in the woods and recognized them as Tyler, Vicki, and Jeremy. We didn't really want to intrude so we moved somewhere else. After a while I heard a faint scream. I'm not sure if Charlie heard it over the chatter of the party, but I definitely heard something deeper into the forest. "What the hell was that?"

"I don't know- hey what's up with your necklace?" I looked down at the necklace that my mom got me for my birthday two years ago. It had a red gem and right now it looked like it was lighting up or sparkling, or glowing, I don't know. It kept happening on and off ever since the first day of school during history class except it was a little more intense now.

"Maybe it's the reflection of the moon..." I looked up to see the moon blocked by the trees. "Or maybe the bonfire..."

"Probably..." he said. But as soon as the glow was there, it was gone.

We stood around for a while before curiosity got the best of me. I needed to find out what happened. I walked off in that direction, Charlie following close behind, when I heard my sister. "Jeremy?"

"Dammit." Elena and I cross paths. "Busted..."

"What are you doing here, Nora?" She asks, concerned.

"I was hanging out with Charlie. We're fine." I say. Technically I wasn't lying, I was withholding truth. "Why are you looking for Jeremy? Is he drunk or high or something?"

"Yeah." Elena says. "Do you mind helping me find him?"

"Not at all." I look at Charlie. "You can go home without me if you want."

"No, no, I'll help." He says, walking with me and Elena.

"Jeremy!"

"Jeremy?!"

Finally, we catch up to him. "Jeremy where the hell are you going?!" Elena says, worried.

"I don't wanna hear it!" Jeremy yells back. Yeah, he's definitely drunk.

"Well, too bad!" Elena counters.

Jeremy trips over something, and I jog over to help him up. When I see what he almost landed on, I gasp. "Oh my god..."

"Vicky? No!" He quickly gets up. "Oh my god it's Vicky!"

"Oh my god!" Elena yells.

"Holy shit... somebody help!!!" Charlie calls out, to anyone who might be able to hear him.

Soon enough, Matt and Tyler are lifting her onto a table.

"Vicky!"

"Give her space!"

"Look at her neck! Something bit her! She's losing a lot of blood!" Elena calls out.

"Put this on her neck!" Tyler hands Elena a bunch of paper napkins to use as a makeshift bandage.

"Vicky? Vicky, come on. Open your eyes, look at me!" Matt yells.

"Someone call a GODDAMN AMBULANCE!" I screamed. These idiots weren't helping at all by crowding and yelling at an unconscious person to wake up. Eventually, an ambulance came and took Vicky to the ER. They even called animal control. Looks like my first high school party went great.

Bonnie jogged over where Elena and I were standing. "Hey, we're gonna go mainline coffee and wait for news."

"Okay. I've gotta take Jeremy and Nora home." She motioned to me.

"Elena, there's no way I'm psychic. I know that." Bonnie starts gravely. "But whatever I saw, or I think I saw... I have this feeling..."

"What kind of feeling?" I cut in.

Bonnie still didn't say anything. "Bonnie, what?"

"That it's just the beginning..."

I inhaled sharply. What the hell was that supposed to mean? I saw Charlie sitting on a bench. I decided to walk over to him. "Hey, so uh... that was pretty crazy..."

"Yeah... are you gonna be okay?" He said, turning to me.

"Yeah, I'm fine, you?"

"I'm fine..." We both looked at the ground.

"Hey, Nora!" I looked up to see Elena waving me over to get in the car. I was gonna ride my bike home but I guess there's no arguing now.

I look at Charlie before I go. "Need a ride?"

"Are you sure?" He asks. "Cause that means we have to fit both of our bikes into your Aunt's trunk."

We both laugh. "Is that a challenge, Charlie Johnson?"

"Yes it is Nora Gilbert." He grins. "Whoever can't do it in under five minutes buys the other person lunch."

"... Bet!"
