There Goes The Neighborhood

Things have been weird the last few days. Bonnie's Grams died. There was a fundraiser that I didn't go to. Charlie and I text occasionally but I mostly stayed in the house. Sometimes I'd play video games with Jeremy, sometimes I would just do whatever. Elena's been acting weird too. She's always talking to either Jenna or Stefan about something secret and when I enter the room, they go silent.

Today is no different so far. I walk through the school hallway and see everyone going about their business. Elena and Stefan are sweet talking by the lockers, Caroline and Matt are discussing bonding activities with his mother who's back in town. I smile when I see Charlie waiting for me at my locker. I skip over to him and give him a short kiss on the lips.

"Well, top of the morning to you too." He says.

I laugh. "So what's new?"

"My parents are back from their big business trip." He says. His tone indicates that it's more of a bad thing than good.

"Ooh. Good luck." I say. Both of his parents are lawyers, so they can be difficult to deal with sometimes. They're always nice when guests are around though.

"Thanks, I'll need it." Charlie's parents were on some business trip in another country to prosecute some big politician. It's a whole thing but neither of us were listening when they told Charlie. We were just happy they were leaving for a while so that we could actually get a taste of fun.

The rest of the day is pretty easy and school flies by just like that. When I get home on my bike, I overhear Elena and Stefan getting ready for a double date with Matt and Caroline. That won't be awkward at all.

While they're out. I decide to lounge on the couch and do... just about nothing. A few hours later, the doorbell rings. Jeremy looks at me from the kitchen. "You gonna get that?"

"Mmm... no." I say.

"Jeez, fine." He get up and opens the door. "Anna!"

"Anna?!" I fall off the couch. Anna glanced at me but disregarded my actions.

"I, uh... I though you and your mom were leaving town?" Jeremy says.

"Oh, change of plans." She says, waiting for a reaction. Jeremy just stared at her "I'm sorry I thought you'd be psyched-"

"No! No, no I mean, I am!" Jeremy says quickly. "Of course I am."

"All right then." She says. "Step aside."

Jeremy steps aside and they both walk into the living room to see me on the couch. I look at both of them. "I'll be in my room then." I say, getting up and walking upstairs. The rest of the day was pretty boring. I was on the phone with Charlie for a bit though. At around 9 PM I decided to get ready for bed, even though I would probably stay up way past ten that night. When I went into the bathroom, I couldn't find any toothpaste. There was none in the medicine cabinet either. With a groan I went to Elena's room. But she was on the phone with Stefan. I swear, their tendency to be on an off is giving nag me whiplash. I sighed and walked to Jeremy's room instead. "Hey, Jer, do you know if we have any tooth-" I stopped when I saw that he and Anna were in the middle of a heartfelt discussion. Anna looked at me and seemed to recognize me from a few nights ago at the tomb. "Uh... never mind. I'll just ask Jenna."

I did not ask Jenna.

I was too lazy.

That night I didn't fall asleep until really late at night. Every time I closed my eyes images kept flashing through my mind. Images of death. Bloody gore and disaster. What the hell is wrong with my mind these days? Finally I drifted into dreamland without any vulgar images.

I was in the woods. It felt real, though I knew it couldn't be. I trudged through the leaves and grass, trying to find some sort of familiar landmark. Like the shed. I saw someone in the distance and lept behind a tree. When I turned around, I saw a familiar face.

"Mrs. Bennet?" I asked in disbelief.

"Nora." She smiled. "Call me grams, alright?"

I nodded. "This is a dream right?" I asked. "I mean, I'm not dead... right?"

"Yes this is a dream... of sorts." She said. "I'm here to warn you. A great danger will come to Mystic Falls. And when it does, you have to protect your sister at all costs."

"What? What kind of danger?"

"I can't tell you. The ancestors won't let me." Grams said. "But you need to know. You need to be ready."

"Why?"

"Because, Nora, you will do amazing things one day. But you must know your capabilities."

"What capabilities?" At this point I was getting worried.

Suddenly, the earth began to shake. Grams looked as worried as me now. "You're waking up." She said. "I need you to tell Bonnie I love her and I believe in her."

"Okay, I will. I promise I will." I said frantically. "What were you gonna say before?"

She took a deep breath. "You need to know that there's a lot resting on your shoulders. And I know that it's not fair, but you're special." The ground was shaking violently now. "You're a-"

I remember waking up screaming bloody murder. There were tears in my eyes and I noticed Jeremy sitting there next to my bed, looking extremely concerned. I pushed all of the covers off of me, still screaming, not in my right mind.

"Nora!" He yelled. "What happened? Are you alright? Did you have a nightmare?"

"Jeremy?" My head was finally cleared. I wiped my tears and hugged him. "Is this real?"

"Yeah, of course this is real." He said. "What's up?"

"I don't know."
