“Hi Patty.” I say with a small smile.
“Hi sweetie. How are you?” She asks, letting me step inside.
“I’ve been okay. And you?”
“A bit jealous. You’re stealing Ashton away from me.” She teases lightheartedly.
“Sorry.” I tell her with an awkward laugh. “Speaking of Ashton, is he home by any chance?”
“Of course he is. Poor thing can hardly stand, his stomach is bruised so badly.”
“Oh.” I whisper. “Well, do you mind if I go up to see him?”
“Go right ahead.” She tells me with a smile.
I thank her quietly and kick my shoes off, heading up to Ashton’s room. I knock on his door gently.
“Yeah?” He calls out.
“Um, can I come in?” I ask quietly.
“I’d rather you didn’t.”
“I brought cookies.” I whisper.
“Come in!” Michael yells.
I open the bedroom door and see all the guys on the ground around Ashton’s bed. There’s junk food everywhere, pizza boxes, movies, remote controllers, and it smells like teenage boy.
“Sweet, thanks.” Michael says, taking the cookies out of my hand and plopping himself down on the floor. Luke and Calum grab cookies without hesitation, shoving them into their mouths.
I take a seat on the side of Ashton’s bed and give him a soft smile. “Hi.”
“Hi.” He grumbles.
“These are really good, Val.” Calum says.
“Thanks. I bought them. I can’t bake worth shit.”
“The plastic container really makes them look authentic.”
“Thanks, Cal.” I say with a quiet laugh. “So, uh, Ashton, can we talk?”
“I really don’t want to. I’m kind of busy falling out of love with you.”
“Ashton, don’t be like that, come on. I just want to talk. I want to apologize for the way I was acting yesterday.”
“It’s fine.” He mutters, his attention on the television in front of him.
“Okay, fine. I can tell you don’t want me to be here. I’ll see you around.” I whisper, standing up. I walk out of his bedroom door and close it behind me
The door opens behind me and I let out a sigh of relief before turning around.
“Luke?” I ask with distaste.
“Val, we need to talk.” Luke tells me, his eyes glinting with an emotion I can’t identify.
“Listen, I’m not in the mood.” I mutter, walking down the stairs.
“Val, seriously.” Luke whines, coming up behind me and grabbing my arm. “We need to talk about Ashton.”
“Maybe some other time, alright Luke? I’m gonna go grab something to eat.” I lie.
“I’m coming with you.” Luke says, shutting the front door behind us.
“Luke, leave me alone.”
“No, Valerie. We haven’t talked in forever. I miss you. I want to apologize for the things that I did and said and I was so stupid Val-”
“Okay, Luke. I get it. Whatever. I’m gonna-”
