“Luke.” I whisper, gently shaking his shoulders.

“Mm.” He mumbles.

“Luke, you gotta wake up.” I tell him with a sigh. “Ashton’s leaving in an hour.”

He sits up with a jolt. “Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?”

“I’m sorry. I just woke up too.” I mutter, running my hands through my tangled hair.

“Where’s Ashton?” Luke asks, sitting up in his chair, looking around the empty hospital room.

“He’s getting ready to go, I think. That’s what the nurse told me.” I answer. “Michael and Calum are down in the cafeteria getting something to eat. We’re supposed to meet them down there or something. I guess we’re all gonna eat breakfast with Ashton before he leaves.”

Luke nods slowly. “Okay.”

I sigh and walk towards the door. I open it and my eyes widen. Ashton looks at me with wide eyes, towel in his hands, his hair dripping wet. He’s dressed in a black tank top, black hoodie, and black skinny jeans.

“Hey.” He says with a small smile.

“Hi.” I answer, biting down on my lip.

“Are we going to breakfast?’ He asks, stepping forward into the room, looking over at Luke.

“Yeah.” Luke answers. “Michael and Calum are downstairs.”

“Okay.” Ashton mutters, setting his towel on the bed and walking back over to us. “Then let’s go get breakfast.”

Luke moves up to Ashton’s side without another word. I stray to the side a bit, giving them enough room to get out the door. I walk behind them slightly. It’s incredibly awkward as we walk down the hall into the cafeteria. Calum waves us over with a forced smile.

Ashton sits down across from him with a lopsided grin. “Where’s Michael?”

“In the bathroom. Said he was feeling a little sick.” Calum replies.

“Well good thing we’re in a hospital.” Ashton says with a dry laugh.

“Not funny.” Luke mutters, taking a seat beside him.

“Sorry for trying to lighten the mood.” Ashton groans. “Val, come sit next to me.”

I nod and take a seat next to him without another word.

Michael returns to the table, taking a seat next to Calum. “So, I figured you wouldn’t want some boring cafeteria food so I kind of ordered a pizza.”

“Thanks, Mikey.” Ashton says with a grin.

“Yeah, no problem.” Michael says, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “It should be here soon.”

“So, how’ve you guys been?” Ashton asks, looking around the table.

“Good, I guess.” Calum answers weakly.

“That’s good. How’s the band going?” He asks, turning to Luke.

“There is no band.” Luke whispers.

“What?” Ashton asks, immediately looking concerned.

“He said there’s no band.” Michael speaks up. “It wasn’t the same without you, so we stopped.”

“Oh.” Ashton mumbles.

“Oh, hey. Pizza’s here.” Calum says, perking up. “I’ll go get it.” He gets up without another word.
