TW: Yes the torture. This is Bdubs and Doc! Please don't kill me! GRAPHIC BLOOD? IDK IF IT WOULD BE CALLED GORE OR NOT. IT IS DEFINITELY BLOODY THOUGH. ALSO SOME PARTS MIGHT BE DISTURBING. I just had this idea and it kinda turned into a place to shove all my venting/more disturbing brainstorming. I also need way more practice writing stuff like this ngl-

no, for absolutely no reason in particular :)

I'm sorry if this is a bit repetive, y'know, with the p a i n, but I'm trying to get stuff out :)

also go read the "Everything to Know" chapter, where I give a Ted Talk on this book

Bdubs screamed.

Thorns ripped at his skin, the armoured plants wrapping around his chest and arms. He felt like he was suffocating. He struggled, but that seemed to give them permission to squeeze tighter. When he felt they couldn't cut off his airways any more, the thorns made a final, desperate move. In the blink of an eye, they snapped impossibly closer.

Bdubs couldn't find it in himself to scream again.

The thorns dug further into his chest and arms. Blood erupted from the punctures, spurting down the spines of the thorns. It looked like the plants were crying. Disturbing red tears, but still crying. Weeping.

And then the thorns withdrew. Bdubs almost wanted them to stay, to keep the fire under his skin from spreading and tearing as the plants thrashed and tore away.

Then he was alone in the darkness, pure scarlet pooling around him. He allowed his legs to collapse, tumbling to his knees with a raspy sob. He couldn't manage more than a gravelly cry since his lungs wouldn't allow him to inhale anything deeper than shallow breaths. Dizziness spread inside his skull and his mind, threatening to pass him out cold. He fought it for a minute, then realized maybe it would stop if he let it take over. So he did.

Unfortunately, it did nothing other than send louder jagged shockwaves of pain to seep into his mind. Bdubs was on the verge of fainting, but somehow the universe around him kept him conscious. It was agony.

Bdubs felt the faintest sensation of something slithering against his ankles, before whatever it was pulled tight. Something moved against his side, and, with much determination and struggling, widened his almost-closed eyes to see what it was. A pair of eyes peered back at him. They were a flaming golden, with streaks of crimson lining the edges and highlighting the pupils, which were midnight black and slitted so dramatically far that they were almost hidden from sight.

Only then was Bdubs aware that the thing around his ankles had the feel of scales pressed against his skin. He realized through the fog in his mind that this was a snake. A serpent. A scaly beast with embers for eyes and obsidian scales.

And then it disintegrated, blowing away on a nonexistent wind, coating Bdubs in dust. He got a mouthful of it, thick and clinging and suffocating. Bdubs coughed and spat, trying to work up moisture in his dry mouth and keep the filth from finding its way to his lungs. Finally, a gust of freezing air shot through the air, slapping against Bdubs and somehow carrying the dust away in a blink.

Bdubs sat there, gasping for breath as well as he could, when he felt a pair of hands on his neck, closing, constricting. His heartbeat spiked. 'What now?' he just wanted to close his eyes and get away. 'That's what this is. Just a bad dream.' Bdubs reminded himself.
