A week had gone by and thanks to Kiara's not-so-random knowledge of the area, they were doing pretty good in terms of survival. They had food, water, shelter, even clothes, yet they still felt depressed.
Stefan often marvelled at the inventions the people who used to live in the EZ had done, but there was only so much that Kiara and Freya could understand. So he found himself thinking about Jasper pretty often.
Freya's mood was influenced heavily by the atmosphere inside of Kiara's old house and by the exhaustion of having to care for the last one, whose knee was making a weird and surprisingly fast recovery that nobody could explain.
But Kiara?
She was so drowned in the sorrow and nostalgia that her very livid memories brought her, that she could not pretend that she was okay anymore. And although her companions thought that she was being struck by belated guilt due to her brief encounter with her brother at first, after some days they realised that there was something else bugging the redhead that was causing her to be so quiet and reserved.
Sometimes she would see the woman who used to care for her and that had therefore lived with her in the very same place she was currently staying in with her companions, in some places around the house, she could even see a younger version of herself timidly approaching her to offer her assistance with the dinner preparation. Sometimes, as she sat near the exit to the woods, she could see herself alongside a black-haired boy, both grasping their bows and laughing as they walked inside the dense woods.
But not every memory was happy.
For instance, as she placed her parchments in front of her, quickly eyeing her map that was marked with different routes and code names that they were developing and learning so that as soon as she was able to move freely they would engage in their plan, and hope for the best as they entered Eganis, she felt a presence beside her that, in return, caused her to turn her face slightly to the side.
She immediately stumbled upon familiar grey eyes that due to the light were faintly glowing as if it was newly polished silver. Due to the proximity, she quickly realised that those eyes did not belong to Liam, but that instead were Dmitri's, though she could not check for sure because the instance that she blinked, the male figure was gone and her golden eyes met Freya's instead.
-Hey, let us see how's your leg doing.- she said gently.-
Kiara only nodded, used her arms to sit down in the table in front of her and laid down completely allowing Freya to inspect her knee as she curtly eyed the roof.
-You are very out of yourself lately Kiara.- she said as she touched her knee, feeling her bones and glancing at the redhead's expressions.- What are you thinking of?-
-A boy.- she replied nonchalantly frowning slightly as she felt a slight stinging from the brunette's touch.-
-Liam is okay Ara.- replied the brunette with a teasing smile.- I know that you miss his lips but he is clever enough to survive.-
Kiara stood quiet some seconds as her mind processed what Freya had said, and after fully realising what the elder female had said, she broke into a burst of laugher confusing Freya.
-I was not speaking about Liam! - she exclaimed as her laugh slowly diminished into giggles.-
-If you were not speaking of Liam then who? -asked the brunette with a curious stare as she finished inspecting her knee that was doing better than she expected.- I am still confused over how fast you are healing though.-
-Same.- she sighed, sitting down properly to face the female with a grin.- Do you remember who was the cause of the dismay brought upon this zone?-
