Next morning both Kiara and Liam woke up on the floor. The last evening they had decided to sleep in the living room once again as none of them had the strength to drag themselves to their respective rooms, so instead, they combined their sofas (or so they tried) and slept together covered by a blanket and their respective body warmth provided them with an extra layer of heat that they both appreciated.
Truth to be told, they were now internally cursing their past selves for not going to their rooms as their bodies ached. It was difficult enough for Liam to try to sleep with his left leg raised and Kiara was currently unable to sleep on her left side where the tattoo was done the night before much to her dismay as that was the side she found the comfiest.
Fully standing up both of them shared a look, warning the other one not to say something "funny" or else it would mean chaos unleashed. Seemingly agreeing to an understanding, they scoffed and went their own ways to prepare for the hectic day ahead.
The Commander's orders were clear meaning that they would have to meet up with the prospects that same morning and they were also expected to know the means of assessment of the candidates before meeting them. So, in summary, they were doomed if they did not arrange something promptly regarding the matter.
"After Kiara was proclaimed as the Alpha leader, a medic was cleaning her tattooed area before bandaging it, and as Kiara spoke with Liam about the situation, their conversation seemed to come to a halt the moment the Commander stopped in front of them, closely inspecting Kiara's movements and reactions before quickly glancing at the medic.
-Thank you, I can finish it up on your behalf. - Liam said, dismissing the young medic in a hurry.-
After making sure that they were alone Kiara nodded to the commander, urging him to speak to which he nodded gratefully.
-As the leader issue has clearly been solved.- he started.- Now we must focus on rebuilding the Alphas, to which you are to meet the prospects tomorrow morning to deliver the method of assessment you will use to evaluate them for this first two weeks.-
'Normally I would give you time to rest and heal but I am sure that you understand that there is not any time to spare and that we have to continue moving forward if we are to truly thrive in this war, so I trust you will pick the best candidates to aid you along your path.'
- You can count on it, sir. - Kiara replied.- We will not fail you, again.-
-I know you won't. - he replied before nodding and leaving with his family and the elder who glared at the teenager.-
-It still makes me mad the way the elder glares at you.- Liam said pulling her up.- You are still part of his family, who cares if you are the child of the enemy.-
Kiara did not answer him as her sight was plastered solely on her youngest brother. She had noticed Jayden's urge to congratulate her and, quite possibly, also flinch at her new mark but she could see how her cousin André, shot him a cold stare and dragged him away from her eye-range seemingly pleasing his grandfather with his actions.
-I got used to it. - she simply told him.- It is not like in Eganis I had a caring grandfather either, at least this one is not mental.-"
The red-haired girl in question was currently staring blankly at the shower walls trying not to drift into her memories. She had had enough just by that rough awakening to even muster the strength to explore her deepest concerns and her greatest fears.
Cursing her mind for playing such dirty tricks on her, she decided to think on the assessment that she and Liam were supposed to explain later, while she allowed the hot water to fall soothingly on her scarred back, apparently relaxing the muscles she did not know were tense until that moment.
