Frodo and I walked hand in hand to our favorite spot, the stars glimmering like scattered jewels over the quiet Shire. For once, I didn't fall into the river—because he made sure of it.

"If I could count how many times you've fallen in that river," Frodo teased, his blue eyes twinkling with mischief, "I'd probably have all the gold in the world."

I playfully punched his arm. "You're so funny."

We both tilted our heads to the sky, letting the night wrap around us like a soft blanket. The stillness, the light breeze, the way the stars glowed above—it was a moment carved out of a dream.

"Frodo... can I ask you something?" I said, my voice unsteady, my hands trembling slightly.

He turned to me with a gentle smile. "Of course. You can ask me anything."

"Do you ever feel... like there's something more out there? Beyond the Shire?"

He looked out toward the horizon, thoughtful. "Yes," he admitted softly. "But our life is here."

I ran my fingers through my curly hair, a bit awkward. "I know. But adventure sounds so exciting. There's an entire world ahead of us, waiting to be explored."

I smiled at him, eyes wide with wonder. "We could go anywhere—just you and me. We could go on an adventure together!"

Frodo looked stunned for a moment, then... smitten. He put his arm around me and said with mock solemnity, "I, Frodo Baggins, promise to go on an adventure with you. And it will be the most exciting thing in the history of Middle-earth."

He raised a hand as if taking an oath. I laughed and hugged him tightly. In that moment, I fell deeper in love than I'd ever been.

I wondered if he felt the same. I didn't want to lose him. We'd been friends since childhood. He knew me better than anyone. I didn't want a kiss to change that... unless it changed it for the better.

Suddenly, we were gazing at each other, and the world stilled. Frodo reached out and gently touched my cheek, and I leaned into his hand.

"You're so beautiful," he said, smiling.

Then he leaned in.

And I did too.

Our lips met, warm and tender, and I felt like I was flying. We giggled afterward, giddy and breathless.

"Well," I laughed, "that was a very nice way of sealing your promise."

"I've been wanting to do that forever," he admitted, his hand still resting on my cheek.

I reached up and touched his face, smiling through my blush. "What were you waiting for?"

"The right moment," he whispered.

"It's perfect."

I leaned against his shoulder, heart fluttering.

"You're perfect," he said, pressing a kiss to my forehead.

"I don't want this night to end," I whispered—and this time, I kissed him.

I floated home, light as a feather, slipping quietly through the door. I held my shoes in one hand, trying not to wake anyone.

But of course, my mother was waiting—arms crossed, nightcap askew, and a stern expression on her face.

"Daisy Lightfoot," she said, her voice sharp, "where have you been?"

"I was with Frodo," I confessed, sinking into the armchair, awaiting my punishment.

"This late? A wild animal could've gotten you!"

"I'm sorry. I'll be more mindful next time."

She sighed, her expression softening. "Alright."

I hesitated, then asked, "Mother... how did you know you loved Father?"

She smiled, settling in beside me. "I knew the moment we began spending time together. He first heard me singing with friends by the river—your favorite spot—and he said he fell in love with me right then. He proposed to me there, too."

I smiled, touched by the story.

"Why do you ask?"

"Because..." I grinned. "Frodo kissed me!"

She gasped in delight and pulled me into a tight hug. "Oh, that's wonderful, Daisy! He'll be a good one for you."

"And if you marry him," she added with a playful wink, "you'll be in good hands."

"Mother!" I laughed. "I love Frodo for him, not for his wealth."

"Good on you," she said proudly, hugging me again.

But that happiness was short-lived.

Later that night, terrifying Black Riders thundered through the Shire on monstrous horses. I overheard whispers—they were looking for Frodo.

Despite my parents' protests, I ran from our home, heart pounding, all the way to Bag End.

The front door was wide open.

Inside, Frodo stood frozen, clutching a small envelope. Gandalf was back, and his expression was one of urgent fear.

"Is it secret? Is it safe?" Gandalf asked sharply.

He tore the envelope open, revealing a small gold ring.

"What's going on?" I asked, breathless.

Gandalf spun around and pointed his staff at me! I raised my hands in shock, but he lowered it when he saw my face.

"My apologies, Daisy," he said gravely. "You can't be too cautious, not in times like these."

"Times like what?" I asked, confused.

"The Nine are after the Ring," he said grimly.

My eyes dropped to Frodo's hand. The gold ring lay in his palm, glowing faintly with strange markings.

"It's the One Ring," Gandalf said. "Forged in the fires of Mount Doom by Sauron himself."

A chill crept down my spine. He explained its dark history—how it drove people mad, how it warped the soul. Bilbo had found it... and was beginning to feel its pull. That's how he disappeared during the party.

I felt pale. "What can I do to help?"

Frodo held me, trembling. I could feel how scared he was.

"Help Frodo get out of the Shire," Gandalf said. "Take him to Bree. There, you'll find the Prancing Pony."

"Can you let my family know?" I asked as Frodo frantically packed.

"Of course, Daisy," he said kindly.

Samwise would be coming with us. Our peaceful lives had changed in an instant, and ahead of us was a path we couldn't yet understand.

But at sunrise, we left.

Frodo, Sam, and I began our journey—into the unknown.
