Chapter 3

P.O.V/ Nicole Henderson:

Today is June 20, 2010 it's summer and my mom's birthday she is forty-three she thinks she's old but truth is she really isn't that old; school has been out since May 25th and usually around this time of year is when summer camp starts Eric and I have been going since we were ten so has Riley and the others. I have known Riley since we were babies I met Alex in the second grade where we became friends I realized I was a lesbian in the sixth grade because the thought of dating a boy made me want to hurl still does I was only twelve but I had to tell my parents how I felt and it scared me I was afraid they wouldn't approve especially my mom but she was very accepting in fact she already knew I was gay and my Dad he was totally fine with it he said that he never has to worry about a man treating me bad. When my mom got home from work at 1:00 pm my dad took us all out to eat at The Chop House for my mom's birthday. At 4:00 pm we got home Eric and I went upstairs to pack for camp we walked back down stairs and outside with mom and dad where we got in my Dad's silver 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 it's been lifted with big tires that have black rims. He drives us out to camp Teston Ridge that is located an hour and twenty minutes away it is over by black mountain trailhead that is in Crossville, Tennessee. He turns in the camp driving down the long gravel driveway that leads up to the camp. It is a two acre land that has several cabins built on it and the cabins face a huge lake that has a dock out in front it the lake drops off down to a big waterfall leads everywhere around here. if you go far enough you will end up at the trailhead. My Dad stops the truck in a parking spot and shuts off the engine. We all get out of the truck Eric and I carry our duffel bags. A woman with dirty blonde hair approaches us she is wearing a dark green shirt that says Camp Teston Ridge on the front of it in white letters she is wearing cargo short shorts they are a little too short to be wearing around horny teenage boys. My Mom notices the shorts and clears her throat as the woman speaks " Well hello welcome to Camp Teston Ridge my name is Daphne I'm the head counselor here can I get your names?" My Mom said " What happen to Stephanie?" Daphne said " The camp was sold to new owners and they let some people go". My Mom said " Taylor and Eric Henderson but she goes by Nicole". She writes our names on the clipboard. Daphne said " And how old are they?" My Mom said " Fifteen". Daphne said " Birthdays?" My Mom said " November 18, 1994 they are fraternal twins". Daphne looks at us with a puzzled look. My Mom looks at her weird then said " Fraternal honey which means they aren't identical". She looks at my parents then a light bulb goes off She said " Oh I get it they look like you two instead of each other". Me, Eric and Dad are snickering quietly trying not to let her hear us. She leads us to Eric's cabin where Mason comes walking out and greets Eric with a handshake/hug. They walk in and Eric sits his duffle bag on the bed closes to the window on the right side of the room. I hear wolf whistles I look over at two teenage boys eyeballing me and my mom. one boy is white the other one is black I said " That's my mom you pervs." My mom looks over at them and they smile at us waving in a flirty manner until they see my Dad staring at them with a look. They look scared as they walk away fast me and mom giggle I start smelling a weird scent I look to the left and there stands Josh Quinn the dragon warlock he smiles at me and said " Welcome to camp Nicole we are gonna have so much fun together". He winks at me I watch as his eyes scan my body. My Mom knows what he is and she gives him a stern serious look. He sees her looking at him he looks down and She said " Eyes off my daughter dragon boy". He said " I'm just being nice". I scoffed " You are never nice Josh". He said " When can I take you out on a date? Momma can come too". He winks at my mom. Dad is in the cabin with Eric and Mason. Mom looks up at him then said " She isn't interested now leave her alone". Josh looks over at Dad in the cabin then back at us. He said " Doesn't hurt to try". He walks over to the porch of the cabin and walks inside to the left side of the room to the bed across from Eric's. My Mom is looking over at Josh inside the cabin She said " That boy is sick how long has he been messing with you?" I said " Ever since he moved here a year ago he knows he doesn't have a chance with me". My mom said " Well report him if he does anything else I have a bad feeling about him" Daphne and Eric walk down the steps of the cabin and Eric gives mom and dad a hug then gives me a hug. He said to me " See you later sis". Daphne walks us to my cabin that is several down from Eric's. My cabin is the last one in the first row. Daphne walks inside the cabin and walks down the middle of the room to the second bed on the right side of the room. I lay my duffle bag down on the bed I look beside my bed and there is another empty bed I look over to the left side of the room and there are two more beds facing the two on the right side. Daphne said " Okay Taylor looks like you're all set". I said " Please call me Nicole". She said " Oh silly me I forgot to put your preferred name". She writes on the clipboard and said " There we go all fixed". I open up my duffel bag and I see Mom and Dad walking in out of the corner of my eye they pass Daphne walking out I walk over to the dresser and open the top drawer and put several pairs of navy blue basketball shorts in the drawer along with ankle socks, bras, panties and grey t-shirts that say camp Teston Ridge on the front in white letters. My Mom stands beside the dresser and said " Are you sure you be will okay?" I said " Yeah why not?" She said " Because of Alex. what if she shows up here as Hayden". I said " If she does I'll deal with it because I can't do anything to prove what she did to me because to the whole world Alex Porter is dead". Mom said " Just call us if anything happens or if you're ready to come home. I don't care what time it is I'll come and get you". I said " I'll be fine Mom I promise. I can't live in fear of Alex everyday". She said " Good don't let her make you feel scared". I said " I'm not afraid of her I'm afraid of what she did to me Riley and the others are here with me I know I'm safe". She pulls me into a hug and I hold onto her. She looks at me and runs her fingers through the side of my hair. She said " It just really bothers me that I wasn't there to stop it.." I see her eyes tear up and I said " It wasn't your fault don't blame yourself if it's anyone's fault it's mine. She fell from grace because of me.. and that's something I must live with everyday.." My Mom said " No it's not.. she chose to be evil you didn't decide that for her". I said " I promise I'll call if I need you. Happy birthday Mom I love you now go enjoy the rest of the day with Dad". My Dad gives me a hug and said " I love you sweetie please check in with us". I said " I will". I give my Mom a hug and said beside her ear " I promise I'll be fine. You've got to let me fight my battles on my own I will let you know when I need you". She looks at me and said " I know I just worry something that's always gonna happen I don't care if you and Eric are eighty you will always be my babies". I walk them outside where we see Jesse, Brandon, Riley, Sam and Valerie walks up to the cabin. I see Riley and she sees me we smile at each other. My Mom said to Jesse " I'm so glad they all got the same cabin". Jesse said " Yeah me too". My Mom said " I'm just afraid that Alex is gonna show up here she did use to go to camp here with them". Jesse said " She shouldn't but she probably will as Hayden". I said " Even if she does we will deal with it". Riley said " Yeah as much as we would hate for her to be here". I see a tall girl with black hair that comes to the middle of her back she turns around and I see her face it's Alex looks like Mom and Jesse were right but oh well I can't do anything she's in her magical disguise as Hayden. I said to Mom " Looks like you were right". Mom and Jesse look back at Alex they can see her real face. She is talking to Lakein. Alex looks over at us and smiles evilly she winks at me and I just feel my anger rising. My Mom said " Don't let her get to you". Lakein has her back turned to us as Alex runs her hand through her black hair that is curly on the ends and it stops at her shoulders. Alex puts her hand on Lakein's face and looks over at me as she pulls her into a kiss. She's trying to make me jealous but it's not working. They stop kissing and start walking towards as they pass by Lakein makes puking sounds as looks at me; Alex throws her hand up when she does we hear the sound of tree branches breaking we look up and a heavy branch is falling down. We all scatter diving out of the way to avoid the falling I dove to the right with my mom as the others dove to the left it smashes on the ground right in front of me and mom at our feet as we lay on the ground. Alex and Lakein laugh evilly as they look back. I get up off the ground and help my mom up to her feet. now I'm pissed I said " They think that's funny. watch this". I look around nobody even cares about the branch falling. I point my hand at them using my telekinesis I make Lakein's black basketball shorts drop to her ankles. She exclaims in surprise and scrambles to pull them up I point my hand at Alex's black basketball shorts but she bends down to pick up Lakein's iPhone and I get her grey t-shirt instead as she stands up. It comes up over her face revealing her grey bra and six pack I move my hand slightly to make the shirt come off and fall to the ground. We all laugh hysterically at them but Alex isn't fazed by her shirt coming off. She looks at me and winks as Lakein picks up her shirt a group of girls are passing by with blushing looks because Alex is standing there in her bra. She looks at them and said " That's right I'm sexy ladies". Lakein glares at them and said " Keep walking". they walk by them giggling as they look back at Alex well Hayden they think. Alex puts her shirt back on her and Lakein glare at us. After Mom, Dad, Jesse and Brandon leave me, Riley, Sam and Valerie walk out to the field by the cabins it faces the lake where all of the campers are and the camp counselors are standing around a fire pit that isn't lit. I stand in the back with Riley, Sam, Valerie, Carly, Dani, Jenny and Cheyenne as Daphne speaks to the group with a loud speaker " Hello campers! Welcome to Camp Teston Ridge my name is Daphne Blevins and I am the new head counselor here. Now some of you have been coming here for a long time and some are new so to the new campers I'd like to go over the camp rules; Rule one absolutely no profanity, rule two no fighting/horse play etc., rule three no weapons, alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs, rule four boys and girls are not allowed in each others cabins after 8:00 pm we ask that you be in your cabin by 8:30 pm and that you are in bed before 11:00 pm, rule five treat camp counselors and other campers with respect. If anyone is caught breaking these rules you will be written up if you get too many write ups you will be sent home and if you are caught fighting you will be sent home and banned from the camp. Everybody understand?!" Everyone shakes their heads yes and Daphne said over the loud speaker " Alrighty then today we are gonna take a hike up Teston Ridge make sure you have water and that you are wearing the appropriate footwear! no flip flops!" Everyone follows Daphne and four other counselors as they lead the way to the entrance of the ridge which is at the bottom of the camp it is on the right side of the camp when you pull in the driveway. I stay with Riley, Sam, Valerie, Carly, Dani, Jenny and Cheyenne we are at the very back of the crowd because Daphne and the other counselors are singing the most annoying song ever as we hike up the ridge I can hear her all the way back here " Ooh eeh ah aah ting tang... walla bing bang"... they all sing the first part in unison until Daphne starts singing " I told the witch doctor I was in love with you then the witch doctor told me what to do!" Then she repeats the first part with the other counselors as they continue singing the rest of the song with some of the campers. I said " Ugh... just when I thought I'd never here this song again". Riley said " I know right it's so cheesy". Dani said " That song has been out since 1958 everyone in the English speaking world knows this song". I feel something pelt me in the back of the neck. I exclaim as it stings a bit I look back and see Alex, Lakein, Ray, Alexia and Drew. They are all snickering evilly Alex gives me fake expression on her face like she doesn't know what's going on. I roll my eyes and turn my head back continuing to walk with the others. Until I feel another pelt now I'm annoyed I stop walking and turn around quickly Lakein stops and we stare each other down. I said as I kept my eyes on her " Stop throwing those pebbles at me". Lakein and I are the same height as we are eye level. Riley and the others have stopped while the group keeps walking. Lakein scoffed " I don't know what you're talking about nobody threw anything". She snickers evilly so does Alex and the others. Riley said " Stop it whoever it is". She glares up at Alex. Riley has a hold of my arm as we start walking again I hear Lakein say under her breath " Bitch". They stopped throwing the pebbles and we continued following the group until we got to the very top. It is a beautiful view that overlooks the entire camp and the lake I look over to the left and see the lake where it leads off to the waterfall. Daphne inhales the fresh air and said " This is such a nice view". Alex said under her breath " Yeah it is". I look back and see her standing behind me I watch as her eyes scan my body I roll my eyes she has her hair tied back in a ponytail with some of her bangs down on the right side of her face. Her blue eyes are piercing with evil everyone starts walking back down the ridge I walk trying to catch up to Riley who doesn't realize I'm behind. Alex and I are the last ones at the back of the group She said close to my ear " I'll be seeing you later..." Everyone is getting further away as I try to catch up I can't dash and use my superhuman speed because I can't reveal my powers to the mortals. I glare at Alex as I jog down to Riley she stays back there just glaring at me Lakein was in front of Riley and the others but she walks back there with Alex. We finally make it back down to the camp which was two hours; one to hike up and one to hike down. Some of the campers were out of breath because it was there first time doing the hike. It's about 6:30 pm the camp counselors have started a fire at the fire pit where we first went before going up to the ridge. The other campers are at the fire pit or just walking around the cabins. they are all over you have a choice to stay outside or go hang out in your cabins. I'm sitting at the edge of the dock with my bare feet hanging off in the cold lake water which doesn't bother me because I'm immune to the cold. I hear foot steps walking on the dock I look back and see Riley she slides off her white 2010 Nike Air maxes for women. Riley is a size seven in women's shoes I'm a size six cause I have baby feet as Riley puts it. She sits down beside me and slowly dips her foot in the water she exclaims in surprise and said " Damn that's cold". I smile at her she's so cute she lets her bare feet hang off not touching the water. She said " How are you doing with asshole here?" I said " Alright except she keeps messing with me I really wish she would just go away but I know that's not gonna happen. this is my punishment for breaking her heart". Riley said " No this isn't. she couldn't cope with not being with you and she let herself go towards the dark it wasn't your fault you did nothing wrong". I said " If it was the other way around how would that make you feel if I picked her instead of you?" She looks out at the lake then looks back at me. She said " It would hurt more than I can imagine but I would have never let evil win. I would have rather had you as my friend than to not have you in my life at all". We walk back to the cabin well sneak back to spend sometime alone together before lights out. Riley turns the cabin door knob and we walk inside I close the door behind me.
