Chapter 6

P.O.V/ Nicole Henderson:

It's been a month since my parents split up it was hard to believe that it even happened. I never thought my Dad would cheat on my mom but with Kim? her best friend that's just wrong. Mom refuses to speak to Dad he stops by the house almost everyday and begs her to talk with him but she doesn't want to. I got the shock of my life that day too; Apparently Carly has harbored feelings for me for the past three years. I felt like I was frozen in time when I watched the hologram I can't believe it she made me swear not to tell Riley or Dani so I told her I wouldn't. It's Friday December 17 , 2010 the last bell of the day rings my last class it is Health. I get up from my desk and pick up my black Nike back pack off the back of the chair I look over two rows and see Riley putting a textbook in her black and white Adidas back pack. I walk behind the rows of desks and up to her as she stands up. I said " Can you stay over this weekend?" Riley said as she puts her back pack on " I promised my Gran Dad I'd help him work on his old truck this weekend it's been sitting for a few years so it will take probably days I'm sorry baby". I said " It's okay I don't mind". She said " Are you sure?" I said " Of course". She smiles at me as I take her hand and walk down the row of desks and outside the classroom. We walk up to our lockers I dial the combination as she dials the lock on hers too. I open the locker and take my backpack off and unzip it pulling out a text book and a binder leaving one textbook in my backpack. Riley closes her locker after putting the rest of her stuff in. She slides her backpack on her back and we walk around the right corner of the hallway down the steps that lead past the office and the auditorium. We walk out the front doors of the school and down the sidewalk that leads down to the courtyard as we walk down I see Carly talking on her phone she's using her right hand that has the cast. I'm looking at her weird now because I know she is in love with me. Riley sees me watching her as we walk down into the courtyard. Riley said " What is it?" I look at Riley then make something up I said " Is it just me or is Carly getting taller?" Riley giggles softly then said " I'm pretty sure she's done growing I don't think she's gonna get taller than you". Riley pats the top of my head I smile at her she's silly. We walk over to her as we stop she hangs up the phone. I said " So how is your mom?" Carly said " She's okay.. guilty but she's fine it's her own fault though I can't believe she did that". Riley already knows what happened at Jacob's house between my mom and Kim. I said " Yeah it's crazy". Carly is giving me a look she's probably wondering if I told Riley that she likes me. Riley sees Jesse pulling up in her Mustang Gt She said " There's my mom. I love you baby girl". I said " I love you too beautiful". Riley puts her hand on the back of my head and pulls me into a kiss as she kisses me I look out the corner of my eye at Carly she is a little jealous but is trying not to let me see that. Riley said " I'll call you later today". I said " Okay have fun with your grandad". She walks over to the car and opens the door Sam is pushing the passenger seat up so she can climb in the back seat as she sits down Jesse pushes the seat back and Riley sits down in the seat closing the door. Jesse waves at me and Carly as she pulls off turning left up the road to by the football field and the gym her engine roars as she drives up the hill. Carly said " You didn't tell Riley did you?" I said " No if I did she wouldn't like it. My question is why didn't you just tell me?" Carly looks around and said " Not here. can I walk home with you?" We walk through the courtyard and down the sidewalk by the school. We are a few minutes down the road from the school. I said " Why did Dani miss school today?" Carly said " Jacob's sister passed away this morning so Dani went out of town with him so Jacob could help the husband plan the funeral so she's gonna be gone for a few days". I said " So are you in love with Dani?" Carly said " I'm in love with both of you... but I haven't been able to choose.. I know that you don't think of me like that and that's what's dumb but I just can't get you out of my mind..." I see a tear fall from her eye. I said " When did you realize you were in love with me?" She said " I realized I liked you when I was in the seventh grade and by the time I got to eighth grade I realized I didn't just have a crush on you that I was in love with you".. We made it to my house where Kim is standing by her 2010 red Dodge Challenger. I'm thinking oh shit Kim is gonna get punched again. I said to Kim " I don't know if my mom will even talk to you after what she found out". I'm upset with Kim too and she can see that. Kim said " I know... and if the tables were turned I'd feel the same way too... but I really do love your mom like she's my sister and I have barely been able to live with what I did... I just don't want Carly to be punished for my actions". I look over at Carly then back at Kim. I walk up to the front porch as they follow me I pull my key out and unlock the door. Eric is at basketball practice with Mason, Mikayla and Sam I have wrestling practice Monday when we go back to school. I open the door and right when I do Mom is sitting on the couch in a black spaghetti tank top and grey Adidas sweat pants her hair is tied back in a ponytail. She glares at Kim and stands up as I walk in they stay outside. I lay my back pack in a black sitting chair. Mom walks over to the door she has her arms crossed She looks at Kim and said " What are you doing here?" Kim said " I have to go out of town for the weekend and I can't take Carly with me I was wondering if she could stay here with you guys". Mom said " Jacob can't let her stay?" Kim said " His sister died this morning him and Dani have been out in Greenback since then". Mom looks back at me and said " Are you okay with Carly staying over?" I said " Yeah sure I don't mind". Mom looks back at them and motions for Carly to come in. She walks by Mom and stands beside me. Kim said " Thank you for not punishing her ".. Mom said " Why would I do that? Carly is always welcome here I can't say the same for you though". Kim said " I'm so sorry... I never meant to hurt you"... Tears fall from her eyes as she said that Mom looks at the necklace around her neck. Kim is wearing Mom's half of the heart from the necklace. Kim said " I'll be back Monday.. I love you Carly". Carly walks out on the porch and gives Kim a hug she holds her with her hand on the back of her head. She looks at her and runs her fingers through her hair. She said " I'll see you in a few days sweetie". Carly said " Okay be careful". She said " I will". She looks at me and mom then walks off the porch. Mom closes the door as Kim gets in her car and starts it. Carly and I walk upstairs to my room where she sits a duffel bag down in front of my dresser.
