Chapter 13

P.O.V/ Kevyn Davidson:

It's been three weeks since the battle with Valerie that ended with my mom being critically injured by those optical energy bolts that Valerie fired from her eyes. She betrayed us and made us believe she was still under the influence of evil and now I've had no choice but to miss school to take care of my mom cause there is nobody else who can or will. The school has become suspicious about my absents I haven't told them what happened because I can't say by the way my mom was injured by a magical student who can fire bolts of energy from her eyes. They would never believe me. I'm in the kitchen at the mansion fixing mom some ice water. I walk out of the kitchen in the dining room where I turn right to go up stairs I turn left going up another set of stairs that leads into the hallway. I hear distant coughing coming from the room at the end of the hall it's on the left side of the hall cross from my room it's mom's room. I open the door and see her laying there in her king sized bed. She is wearing a black spaghetti tank top with a pair of thin grey cotton sleep pants. I walk around to the left side of the bed. She tries to sit up but can't because she's too weak. I sit the glass down on the night stand and bend over her so she can grab a hold of my shoulders as I put my hands on her waist to pull her up. She exclaims in pain cause of the wound she gently lays her back on the head broad as she winces in pain. She hisses in pain as she tries to reach for the glass of ice water she painfully puts her arm down. I pick up the glass and hold it up to her mouth letting her take a drink. I can hear her breathing it is heavy and she is wheezing I put the glass down on the night stand. I said " Why have your arms stopped working?" Mom said breathing heavily " Because I'm dying Kevyn"... I feel my heart sink in fear I said " You can't be.... can your body regenerate itself?" She said " Yes..... but Valerie messed it up somehow"... I said " How can I heal you?" Mom said " You can't.... I'm gonna die and there is nothing you can do about".... I see a tear fall from her eye. I gently pull the medical tape and easily pull down the gauze too reveal the wound. All I can see it a flesh burnt hole that leads through to her back. I stand up and gently pull the medical tape off her back and pull the gauze down revealing the back of the wound it is infected even though I've been cleaning it. I put the gauze back and fix the tape I did the same to the front one. I help her lay back down as she winces in extreme pain. She said " My lungs are burnt and so is my heart.... and there is no fixing that because my regeneration powers have been messed up...." I said " No.... I'm not gonna let you just lay there and die.... I'm gonna find a way to save you..." Mom said as she cried " You can't.... I'm just glad that it's not you laying here..." I'm sitting on the bed beside her holding her hand. I said as I cried " I can't lose you.... if I do I have nobody..." I hear my cellphone start ringing from my back pocket. I reach back and pull it out. It's say Finway high. I said " I have to answer this I'll be right back". Mom said " It's fine... just hand me my phone before you go"... I reach for it laying in front of the black lamp when I pick it up the phone lights up flashing a picture of Sam Roberts on the lock screen. I said " Why is Sam Roberts on the front of your phone??" She gives me this odd look as if she's been hiding something. Mom said " Is she one of your students?" I said " Yeah?? why do you like her or something?" Mom said " Yeah does it bother you?" I said " Not really I just didn't think you'd ever get over Jane or Kim or even be attracted to a sixteen year old girl that you are like twenty years older than". Mom said " I was twenty-eight when she was born to be exact.. it's still new to me but I don't care about the age gap". I said " So when did you realize you liked her?" Mom said " When I took over Valerie's body... We spent everyday together and I don't know how I fell for her but something about her just draws me in.... I felt understood for once in my life something that has never happened". I said " Well I'm not gonna judge you cause I have no room to talk it's not like I haven't been sleeping with Drew Dawson who is I'm about nine years younger than me". Mom said " Sam is very mature for her age and very intelligent". I said " I know I've seen her grades she makes straight A's". Mom said " I must get to know her more.... but if I don't get better I may not have the chance to try". Mom looks behind me and I look back to see flames swirling until my grand dad appears with his cane that has a metal top. Mom said with sarcasm " What do you want?" Gran Dad said " What? I can't come check on my daughter". Mom looks at me and I said " I told him because I'm worried sick about you and now I have to find a way to save you". Gran Dad said " Save her? I thought you said she was just injured badly". I looked at Mom and she looks away. I said to him without turning around " She's worse than I thought.... her lungs and heart are burnt... She's dying grandad"... He walks up beside her and said " Well we won't let that happen". Mom is looking at him She said with sarcasm " Now you start acting like you care about me". He said " I have always cared about you Kelly you are my only child". Mom said  with sarcasm" You've sure had a real funny way of showing it over the years". He said " I had to be hard on you so you wouldn't be weak". Mom said " You were way too hard on me". He said " I admit maybe I should have done things different but I was a single father and I had no choice but to what I thought was right. Your mother wanted to be here but"... Mom's eyes turned red and She said " Don't you dare talk about her".... He said " I tried to take care of her but the cancer was too much." Mom said " Yeah but you didn't save her"... He said " I couldn't... and you can't blame me for that she was too sick". My grand mother was a human that was a criminal she robbed several banks and killed anyone who got in her way. She met my Gran Dad in 1963 when they were sixteen in high school my grandad was born on January 17, 1947 he is sixty-four but became immortal at forty-nine so he doesn't look like he's in his mid sixties. They had my mom on February 7, 1967 when they were twenty. My grand mother Darla had developed lung cancer by the time my mom was a year old she died on June 15, 1972 when my mom was five; my grandmother was only twenty-five years old so I never got to meet her. I said " I have to go to the school they have called a meeting they are wanting to talk to me". Gran Dad said " Well on ahead and I'll stay with your mom". I looked at them and said " Try not to kill each other I'll be right back". Mom said with sarcasm " I'm not making any promises". Grand Dad said " You are too weak to use your powers". She points her finger at him and a energy bolt zips through the air and zaps him in the chest it makes him stumble a few steps back. Mom said with sarcasm " Had enough strength to do that asshole". I said " I'll be back as soon as I can".
