A Hero's Journey - Mysterion's Story

Chapter 20

"WHAT THE HECK, WHY'D YOU DO THAT! I knew we should have never trusted them," Mosquito said clenching his fists.

"Woah, woah there mate, don't worry it's all a part of the process," Ikari reassured him while grabbing a glass bottle from his bag.

Ikari swooped the ashes of the now burned papers into the glass bottle and put a cork in it.

"These papers are made from a rare type of tree, the ashes of the tree will help us retrieve the next object," Ikari explained.

"He is right, this shall help us on our last trip," Yui said in agreement.

"How can we trust them?" Mosquito said directly to Mysterion.

Mysterion thought for a minute, then he said,

"Ikari and Eisu have led us this far, if they were spies, don't you think they would have betrayed us at the Headquarters? Yui says there won't be any betrayals in the future anyway, so I think we should trust them."

Mysterion glanced up and saw Ikari wiping exaggerated tears from his eyes.

"AWE that's the nicest thing anyone has said to me" Ikari exclaimed while hugging Mysterion tightly.

Eisu signed at Ikari, then Ikari let go of Mysterion.

"Eisu wants to know who's Yui" Ikari interpreted.

Mysterion didn't tell them about Yui from the start because he didn't trust them, but now he did, so he sat down and explained. After that they heard horse hoofs clacking on the bridge above them, they also heard 

"Keep searching, they can't be far." 

Mysterion recognized the voice it was the guard that Eisu had handed the "files" to. They must have found that the files were empty, Mysterion wondered how long they had been searching for them. Mosquito lit off the fire, and they all huddled to the corner of the cave all silent. The warmth of them all huddling together made Mysterion sleepy, he could hear Ikari softly snoring, Super Craig and Mosquito snoring in sync, but he didn't know if Eisu was still awake or not. Then Mysterion's eyes drifted shut. The world Mysterion was in this time looked very different, he was on a grassy meadow, he spotted the cherry blossom tree and walked over to it. In front of the cherry tree was the small pond, where the butterfly lying on a water Lillie.

"The last journey is going to be very dangerous, are you sure you want to go?" Yui asked.

"What type of question is that? Of course I'll go" Mysterion answered taking a seat by the cherry blossom tree.

"Great, that's what I wanted to hear, now the last thing is not quite an object. It is the poison of a Byoku, the poison will help us defeat The Ruthless Fox" Yui replied.

"What type of creature is a Byoku?" Mysterion asked in curiosity.

"Maybe it is best if I show you instead" Yui answered.

The world disappeared and it was all pitch black again. Mysterion heard a growl and he turned around quickly, he saw giant claws coming out of the darkness and then saw the huge beast. The beast had a body and head of a dragon, its teeth were as long and sharp as a sabretooth, and the skin was all scaly and bumpy, but the sides of its head was furry. It had a scorpion-like tail, pale yellow eyes almost as light as the color white, and red markings across its face. The beast started walking closer to Mysterion, growling loudly. Mysterion walked towards the Byoku, he wasn't afraid of an illusion. The beast lowered its head and Mysterion slowly put his hand on the beast's fur while looking at it straight in the eye. The illusion started dissolving and the Byoku disappeared.

"Where do I get the poison from?" Mysterion asked.

"You can extract the poison from its main top front fangs," Yui responded.

"How exactly will this be dangerous?" Mysterion asked.

"Byoku's usually live in underground caves, so if the Byoku chases you it'll be hard to hide, Byoku's have venom in their tail's too which can be fatal, and they don't really have good eyesight, but they have an extremely great sense of smell," Yui explained.

"Do you see any future's where we'll make it out alive?" Mysterion asked hoping for a yes.

"I see seven futures were only some people will make it out alive, five futures where you all die, and three futures where you all make it out alive," Yui answered.

Only three? Yikes Mysterion thought. Evenif they did survive and get the venom, how would they get to the Kingdom of Kuatiou?Mysterion doubted Eisu and Ikari remembered where it was, they had probablyforgot since it had been two years. I could always use the truth serum onthem and see if they really knew...but I have to trust them if they say theydon't know, Mysterion thought sitting down in the dark. Mysterion shut hiseyes, when he opened them again, he found himself crouched with his allies inthe corner. Mysterion got up and walked near close to the outside of the cave,trying to listen if the guards were still out there. All Mysterion heard was thewildlife and Mosquito's loud snoring. He was walking to his bag when he heard, 

"I don't care if you're tired, KEEP SEARCHING."
