"Let's go, let's go, let's go." I quickly say, holding Lenny's hand tightly as we make our way through the building.
"Dad, we're gonna be late again." Lenny groans. I turn to look down at her before continuing to rush towards our destination. "Mom's gonna be so mad."
I was off to take Lenny to school and I was nearly an hour late.
Nina was off to her first days at work. She'd mentioned she'd not only gotten a job but was offered the position of an editor which was incredibly amazing and I was proud of her for it. I'd always known she was so talented and I'm glad her work is being recognized.
"She'll understand, baby." I respond.
Translation: I'm dead today.
Nina wasn't going to be too fond about Lenny being late today and this is possibly the 4th time this has happened but I suppose this is my fault for getting up so late.
I was also supposed to meet Mitch and Niall right after I'd dropped off Lenny and I was probably going to have to join a bit later, which I hope they didn't mind- unless?
"I have an idea." I suggest turning around to smile at Lenny. "Why don't we skip school today and have a field trip."
"A field trip?" She frowns. "Where?"
"I'm going to meet some friends. Would you like to join along?"
"Yes!" She says excitedly.
Nina was going to kill me. There was absolutely no doubt about it. But it was only one day and I think Lenny would be fine.
We walk back to the car and I strap Lenny down to her seat before driving to a nearby diner. It was still a bit early and Lenny hadn't really had time for breakfast except for half of a strawberry bagel that I'd given her on the ride to school.
I ordered my usual, pancakes with bacon and hash browns. Lenny orders something off of the kids menu and a giant strawberry milkshake that I have without a doubt she won't finish considering the glass is almost as big as her head.
My eyes glide over the menu that reads blueberry pancakes, my heart instantly missing Nina. Memories of being beside her after she told me she loved me flash through my mind, making me smile.
An hour later, Lenny and I are both finished with our meals and I'm on my way to Niall's, listening to Lenny hum Blackbird by The Beatles the entire way there.
A far as I knew, Mitch and Niall have been living together for quite a while.
They'd invited me over to watch a game of football and although I wasn't the sportiest person, this might actually be an opportunity to form a friendship with Mitch again and hopefully get to know Niall a bit more.
I let Lenny ring the doorbell and we hear it echo before Niall's contagious laugh is heard and I'm met with him on the other side of the door. "Hey!" He smiles before he looks down. "Who's this little munchkin?" Niall says.
