IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: Hi author here, this chapter was previously edited. I wrote this 3 years ago and things might seem a little fast here. I know Nina isn't the most likable person at the start and it may take some time to not feel like punching her. Do be nice to my characters, they have feelings too and so do I, HAHA. For those re-reading, I edited this chapter and added a bit more dialogue. I felt like it needed more. Throughout this chapter, do keep in mind that there was a time in Nina and Harry's life before this argument where they had more arguments. So if you see Nina giving up easily, (not that I'm justifying her stupid mistake) it's all coming from a place of built up anger and frustration where this argument was the final one, and the final straw that did it for her.

Today, work was possibly the hardest it's ever been. I've spent countless hours making calls, even working overtime for my stupid boss just so he won't have to worry about any final errors in the newspaper. I knew being a journalist would come with its negatives, but I wanted to do what I could to be promoted to editor. It just seemed like that wasn't happening anytime soon. The rainstorm that hit today wasn't making it any better either. It meant landlines would be down and the risk of a power outage was high, which honestly made me worried that I wouldn't be able to make the calls and access my emails that I had planned.

Walking into my house, I close up my umbrella, putting it away into the bucket by the door. The first thing I notice is the smell of freshly cooked pasta roaming from the kitchen rather than the usual smell of artificial lavender and vanilla.

On the couch is Harry, with his head of curls deep into thick book, not looking up regardless of hearing the door behind me open and close shut.

I could be an intruder and he wouldn't even notice.

Usually running over to me after work was Lenny, but today her little footsteps were nowhere to be heard. "Where's Lenny?" I ask Harry curiously.

"Your mum came to pick her up earlier. Said she really wanted to show her the new dog they got." He mumbled, licking his finger before turning the page of his novel.

"Oh, she didn't let me know..." I say in a quiet voice.

"She said she tried to reach you but you wouldn't answer." He responded in a monotone voice.

"Did she? I didn't get any calls." I tell him.

He finally looks up at me and tilts head before focusing back to his book. "Yeah."

Immediately, I notice he looks a little off today but I don't question it. Instead, I give him a single nod. "Okay, well I'm gonna go do some work in my office." I let him know as a start to walk away.
