Today was Thanksgiving

Today was Thanksgiving.

Usually on a day like this, I'm 100% prepared for any hectic mess Nina has going on.

Which is exactly what I've run into walking through the door and juggling 5 different deserts in my hands. Nina's mom put me in charge of those this year and although all I knew to bake were Lenny's signature pink cupcakes, I found tons of recipes on Pinterest which were extremely helpful.

I was also glad to have had something to get my mind off of Casey. It was really heartbreaking to have her not believe me, she was really in denial about the entire thing. She'd even be spending Thanksgiving with us if she wasn't upset with me. Just like every year because her family situation wasn't the best.

The first time she joined Nina and I, she was actually really awkward.

She wasn't used to the whole 'big family' gatherings or everyone touching and hugging each-other. It was odd for her but she warmed up to everyone the next few times.

I really wish she were here.

"Llegó el Jerry!" (Jerry is here!) I hear a male voice say. I close the door behind me and look over to a man who I recognize as one of Nina's uncles sitting on the couch watching what seems to be soccer on the television.

I smile at him and give him a nod as my hands are busy. I'm so used to half of Nina's family calling me 'Jerry' that I don't even correct them anymore.

It's always Jerry, Guerrito (little white boy) or Harry.

"Buenas tardes, Diego." (Good afternoon, Diego). He gives me a grin and I walk myself to the table where the first person I spot is Nina, rushing to take groceries out of the bag.

I put everyone I have down before going around the table, beside her. "Hey." I smiled seeing Nina with a handful of grocery bags. "Happy Thanksgiving."

She turns to me with a smile before I bring her in for a short hug. "Happy Thanksgiving." She mumbles before going back to what she was doing.

Nina looks slightly off but I don't question her about it. I assume she's stressed about everything that's out to be planned today.

I watch her look at each label carefully, separating each canned good to a specific side of the table before I speak up, "Would you like some help?"

"No, I think I've got it." She says continuing. I continue to watch her move everything in rapid pace.

"Are you sure? I can like, help you cook something." I respond looking back at the kitchen where nearly 5 different relatives of Nina are rushing just as quickly to get Thanksgiving dinner finished.

She pauses, putting down a can of corn onto the table before looking at me. "We need to talk."

My heart drops, I'm a bit confused and I give her a slow confused nod.  "Okay. What about?" I ask
