19. boilding point

    An hour or so passes as I run a million scenarios through my head, what changed? Suddenly I hear Jesse outside my door followed by her knocking. I still haven't told her we kissed, should I have?

"Hey pal" she says coming in before laying down on the bed beside me

"Whatcha doin in here" she says staring up at the ceiling then down to me

I just shrug and she grins

"Okay" she says. "You better not start turning into Malek, there's only room for one moody bitch" she laughs "and even then it's too much"

"I'm not" I say rolling my eyes and grinning

"He really isn't a open book" I say and Jesse laughs again

"No" she agrees. "Probably know more about the lunch ladies then him"

"What was his family like?" I say honestly confused

"I don't know" she shrugs "he really doesn't talk about anything outside this place"

"What do we really know about him?" She laughs to herself as she thinks

"He's moody" I say and she nods

"He's hot" she says and I nod

"He doesn't like help" I say and she looks at me with an eyebrow raised

"What happened" she smiles

"Nothing" I say quickly and convincingly

"Mm. Okay" she says laying back again

"he has slept with 3 girls" I say

"He actually told you something?" She says laughing as she looks at me and I shrug

  "You sure your good in here?" She says looking over to me

  "Yah I'm fine, I think I'm going to call it a night" I say and she nods

  "Alright well Goodnight then" she grins then gets up and walks out of my room.

  I roll over facing the wall before shutting my eyes and eventually drifting off to sleep.

  I wake to the usual loud sound that echos across the whole floor. I roll over and watch as the leaves from the tree outside cast a moving shadow across my floor as the sun is rising in the sky.

  "Cmon" I hear from the door and it's Jesse and Aaron standing there waiting for me to get up. I must have been here for at least 5 minutes now watching the shadows.

  I roll my eyes and lift myself from the bed before walking out with them to the table before sitting down to the food already laid out.

  Minutes later Malek appears from around the corner and sits down without looking at anyone. I look up at his face as it's now starting to bruise with a small cut visible on his cheekbone.

   After breakfast I went for testing with Dr Martin as we worked on rebuilding from ash and using my powers to create small structures like vine ladders and a small bridge systems that are just barely strong enough to hold me. It's actually kind of cool.

  After testing I reentered into the common area when a guard called us for outside time. I walked behind the guard at the front of the group down the stairs.

  We walked out into the grass as Jesse and Aaron already started for the small pond we built.

   I follow them and sit up against the tree and watch as Malek takes off his shirt as he begins to warm up before running.

  I watch as he does his laps when he starts watching me. He eventually slows down after a while, his chest is now dripping with sweat as he pants while looking at me. What is with him.

  He suddenly breaks away from his track and starts walking towards me?

  "We need to talk" he says? Since when are we back to talking?

  I get up and he walks me towards the side of the building before sitting down against it. I sit beside him still unsure what we need to talk about so privately?

  "We need to leave" he says softly, so low even I'm having a hard time hearing him.

  "No kidding" I say rolling my eyes

  "No I'm serious they have started threatening all of your safety. They will start using us on each other so we have to test our full limits" he says and I look up at him confused. "I'd rather die trying to get out of this place that rot here"

  "Where would we go? How would we get out?" I say confused "what are they doing to you?" I say confused looking up at his bruised face

  "We can get out, tomorrow during outside time. I can handle the guard and you can up root the earth and get us a tunnel out" he says "we will get as far into that forest as we can and eventually we will find the road, we're only like a couple miles from the main turn off, I've driven it to get the rest of you enough times to know"

  "But-" I start confused

  "We have water and food with you and Jesse, we have to do this, we can't just rot here. They will hurt you Ivy" he says and I know he's right. I look past him towards Jesse as her and Aaron are sitting down along the pond.

   "I'm scared" I say looking back at him. If this goes wrong we will definitely lose any outside privileges, this will truly turn into a prison if we're caught.

  "We can't stay here" he says and I nod. I know he's right. I always knew there was a chance of an escape plan forming.

  "How long have you been planning this?" I say confused

  "It's all I ever think about" he says and i believe him. "It's our easiest shot"

"Time" the guard shouts and my stomach sinks. Malek stands and helps me up as we walk

   "I can't go to Jesse with this she will tell them it has to come from you"  he says as we're walking and I look up at him but he doesn't look back while we come within ear shot of the guard

  My stomach twists as we walk back up the stairs. As we enter into the common area Malek passes me as he slides his hand from the small of my back around to my side before walking back to the showers. And just like that the butterfly are back.

  Lunch is served shortly after and I feel so sick knowing what I know I'm not even hungry. Malek doesn't join us for lunch and I listen as Arron and Jesse drown on about some new testing I can't seem to pay attention to.

  "Jesse I have to talk to you" I say suddenly blurting it out and they immediately stop talking and she turns to me confused

  "Okay?" She says and I nod before standing abruptly from the table and heading to my room.
