We drive Into Las Angeles and I am glued to the windows taking it in, I've never actually been here.
Malek seems focused on getting us to a relatively safe space as we find a parking spot along a beach stretch with lots of people, stores and restaurants.
"They can't kidnap 4 people in a place this busy" Aaron says and Malek nods.
"Sam" I say and he turns back to me from the drivers seat.
"Thank you" I say and he nods a little. I wish there was something we could do to say I'm sorry and thank you.
"Cmon, get dressed we need to get food" Malek says standing from the passenger seat as he walks to the back and grabs his black t shirt and pulls it on. This is the first time seeing him in real clothes as if I saw him on the street and my stomach does a backflip.
He catches me staring and grins before opening the side door and hoping out. Me and Jesse change into our normal sweatpants and one of Sams t shirts that we knotted in the front to make it look like we weren't straight out of the ward with out grey sweats and white shirt combo.
Aaron borrows some of Sams clothes as well before locking the van and walking up the sidewalk along the beach looking for somewhere to eat.
"How much money do we have" I say looking at Sam
"I'm good on money, but it won't last forever and I have to have money to get home" he says and I nod.
"There's a street vender" Aaron says
"I'm vegan" I say looking at the hotdogs
"Okay well there's an outside restaurant over there" Jesse says and we all start walking towards it.
We all get seated by a young lady who is just younger than us.
Not to long passes when a young black male server with short hair named Smith comes to greet us and hands us our menus.
I go to pass the menu to Malek down the table when I notice his eyes locked on the server?
We all order water and the server leaves but Malek doesn't move, eyes still locked.
"What's wrong?" I say speaking up
"Him" he says not giving me anything, by now the rest of the table is picking up on Maleks behaviour
"What?" Aaron asks confused for a second when he too shoots his head around and stares down the waiter?
"What's wrong?!" I say again still confused
"you feel that too?" Malek asks Aaron and he nods in agreement? What is with them
"Oh my god!" Jesse says now watching him
"WHAT" me and Sam both say confused at the same time
"He's one of us" Jesse whispers and I look over at the server confused when it hits me and I can feel it. It's so clear and distinct he has the same pull as any one of us gives off? He has powers?! There are more?! I thought I it was just the 4 basics??
"One of you?" Sam says confused
Smith starts his way back to the table with a trey full of waters before placing them down on the table awkwardly as we all are staring at him silently
"Are we ready to order" he says nervously looking around our table when something changes. He looks at Malek and it's like he saw something and his face shifted, as if he clued in too.
A second later he suddenly drops his pen and pad and starts sprinting and Malek is up within a second chasing him.
We all immediately jump to our feet and begins chasing him in and out of tables through the outdoor restaurant to the exit as people start yelling, so much for low profile.
