"Y/N," Mando spoke as he closed the ship door.
"Mando?" You said reaching down to take off your boots. You first set down the coin bag on the floor. You didn't own a pair of high heels, so these boots were the closest you had to formality.
You undid the laces and slipped your left foot out almost falling on your ass in the process. You had terrible balance and you hobbled around trying to catch yourself. A familiar hand found its way to your arm and offered you stability. You turned and smiled at Mando.
"Thanks," You said slipping it off of your right foot. You reached down to pick them up so you could take them back to your room. Mando's hand never left your arm, "Can I have my arm back?" You joked.
He just stood there, helmet tilted down at you. He eased his grip on your arm and reached down to take your hand in his. A blush crept up your face. You looked towards the ground feeling overwhelmed.
"Look at me," He spoke sternly before grabbing your other hand.
You chose not to listen, instead, you looked at the sight of your hands in his gloved ones. It had grown to symbolize the distance between you. The fact you would never be normal with each other. There was always a side of him that had to be masked away, literally.
You turned his gloved palm over and pinched the very tip of the glove. You took it off slowly, not daring to look up. You tossed the glove to the ground and analyzed his hand. You were reminded of the warm color of his skin as you traced the lines of his palm and the callouses on his fingers. You tried to memorize every detail.
You released his hand and looked up at him. Your reflection greeted you in the shiny silver of his helmet. One of his hands was still in yours and he squeezed it gently. The ungloved hand made its way to the underside of your chin.
"Yes?" You said softly trying to break the tension.
"You look beautiful," He spoke as quietly as the modifier would let him.
"Thank you, you too," You said quickly. Your eyes widened at your words. Embarrassment overtook you.
"Thank you, but I must say you are much more beautiful than I," Mando spoke in a way as though not to mock you, but to alleviate your worry.
"Pfft," You replied with a smile. You felt much better, he always seemed to make you feel that way.
"Y/N, I-" Mando started only to be interrupted by the coos of the child. He was waddling over. He released his hands from you and your skin screamed for his touch to return.
He walked over to the child and you watched him bend down. You decided to leave them alone. You picked up your boots and the coin bag and walked back to your room. The door slid closed behind you. You set the coin bag on a shelf and the boots below it.
You carefully removed the dress from your body and unstrapped the lightsaber from your thigh. You folded and placed the dress neatly in the bag you had received it in. You placed the lightsaber under your cot. You found a comfy oversized shirt and shorts and slipped it on. You threw yourself down on your cot and sleep welcomed you into its embrace.
-
For once, you woke up on your own. You felt disappointed not seeing Mando or even Earl when you first opened your eyes. You groggily sat up and stretched. You heard a loud bang outside your door. It wasn't a knock but something was definitely happening.
