Demi's POV

It's been a few days now and that Jesse guy still hasn't texted me. I was a little disappointed at first, but then I got pissed. Now, I don't really care. I've learned that all guys are the same. They flirt their ass off just to get in your pants and their gone. I don't need that type of shit in my life. Especially because I'm a mother. Isabella is literally in love with high school though which I think is cute. I know soon she will be over it though and not wanting to go. It happens every year. The first few weeks, she's excited and ready to learn, and then it slowly turns to her not wanting to go anymore because she's tired and doesn't want to wake up in the morning. Today is Friday though, and I just dropped her off at school before heading to the diner. I'm actually working a shorter shift today so I will be off at noon. That's only because Gail is closing the diner early today because I guess she has to go out of town for the weekend and she decided to just give everyone an early day. When I walk into work, I do my normal routine before I start cleaning, taking orders, serving people, and occasionally getting back into the kitchen to help Gail cook the food. She's really picky and likes to do it all on her own. Sirah and I will help her when we can though.

"Demi, you're lover boy just walked in." Sirah says walking into the back with a big smile. I glare over at her as I dry my hands from cleaning the dishes.

"He isn't my lover boy." I mumble and she chuckles.

"Sure. I saw the way you two were looking at each other on Monday. You are both so into each other." She says and I roll my eyes.

"I was until he asked for my number and never texted me. He's an ass just like any other guy is." I say just as Gail walks in and gives me a look for cussing on the job. It doesn't matter if customers are around or not, she doesn't permit it. "Sorry." I smile at her and she rolls her eyes before walking past me.

"One of you get out there and take the customers order that just walked in." She says and Sirah immediately takes the rag from me and pushes me towards the door that leads to the front. I huff before turning around to be met by those piercing bluish / gray eyes. I walk over to him and grab my notepad out of my apron.

"What can I get for you?" I ask not once glancing up at him when I make it to the counter.

"Your number again." He says and I furrow my brows before finally looking at him confused.

"What?" I ask and he chuckles before scratching the back of his neck.

"I accidentally threw the napkin out when I got to work. I decided that maybe it's not that big of a deal, but as the days passed, I realized that I really did want to talk to you again. I mustered up enough courage to come in here and ask for your number again." He explains and I let out a small smile. Okay, so he didn't just completely blow me off. "This time you can put it straight on my phone." He says holding his phone out for me. I bite my lip slightly as I grab it out of his hand to see the new contact icon already pulled up. I quickly type in my number and name before handing it back to him.

"You know, I was thinking that you were just one of those typical duché guys that was never gonna text me." I say and he chuckles.

"I thought you would think that so I knew I had to come in here and explain." He says and I smile and glance over at Sirah who's peeking through the door with a smirk. I roll my eyes and look back over at Jesse who's already smiling at me. "So, what time do you get off today?" He then asks.

"At noon. My boss is letting us all go early." I reply and he nods.

"Mind if I stay until then so we can get to know each other after?" He asks and I'm honestly surprised. I glance over at the clock before looking back down at him.
