As he made his way down stairs to meet Ivy he was shocked to see her stood in an office arguing with the man who knocked her down earlier that day. He didn't interrupt since it looked like they were sorting something out but he was a little uncomfortable watching him grab her arms when she was trying to avoid him.
After a few seconds of watching him repeatedly grab her arms even though she backed away from him every time, he opened the office door. "Hey Ivy, it's late. We better get home" he said excusing Ivy from the toxic environment. Ivy shot him a thankful smile before turning to look at the man one last time, "don't show up here again" she snapped at him as she left with jay.
Once they got in the car, jay turned to face her. "So do you wanna tell me the truth now?" He said kinda hurt that she lied. She looked down and frowned, "he's my long gone ex fiancé..." she spat out the bitter truth. Jay looked at her in utter shock, "ex-fiancé?!" He said slightly raising his voice. She looked at him with embarrassment and fear, he had never raised his voice at her before, "I'm sorry..." she started but he cut her off with his hand. "When we're you gonna tell me?" He said kind of angry. They were both leaning away from each other, "I don't know I forgot about him" she replied back truthfully. Jay shot her a unbelievable look, "How could you forget that? Your own engagement?" He snapped at her. He realised how harsh he sounded so he calmed down a little, she looked down again in guilt.
"I was young and stupid, and drunk" she admitted, he looked at her with confusion. His eyes softened as he realised there was more to the story than just keeping secrets. "I was 19 and we had been dating for a few months. We went out for drinks on New Year's Eve, I got shit-faced and I mean like couldn't even see straight shit-faced" she began to explain while jay looked at her with content. "He took advantage of that and proposed, I couldn't even stand up on my own so of course I said yes. It wasn't until the next day when I saw the ring on my finger, I realised I messed up pretty bad" she finished as a tear ran down her cheek. Jay noticed her sadness and cupped her face in his hand, "hey look at me, I didn't mean to push you. I was just worried..." he wiped the tears away and she cut him off, "it's not your fault, I should've told you earlier" she admitted, they both understood each other and stared at each other for a minute or two. Jay remembered she said ex fiancé so he questioned her again, "how did you call off the wedding..." he said wanting to know more. She smiled and owed him an answer, "I let it slide for a few days until I couldn't stand the thought of living a life I didn't want anymore. I came home one day and I told him I didn't want it, I told him I knew what he did that night, he didn't take any of it lightly and he uh kicked me out of his place..." she said while looking down again.
Jay grabbed her hand as kissed the back of it, she turned to look at him with a small smile. "So he's a dick?" He tried to joke and she's some light onto the topic. She laughed and sniffled, "yeah a big one, he didn't even let me back in to get my stuff" she smiled remembering the tiny details. Jay smiled back, "so what was that about just then?" He asked his final question. She scoffed and explained, "oh yeah, he fetched me my brothers necklace that he wouldn't let me get years back. He also said he uh, he misses me. I guess you saw he's pretty touchy..." she said while rolling her eyes. Jay cringed at the thought of him touching Ivy, his girlfriend. "Yeah well you're my girl now so, he needn't think he can just take you back..." he said getting jealous. She laughed but grabbed his hand and rested her lips on it, "I'm not going anywhere" she whispered.
It was late so Jay drove them back to his place and they immediately crashed down into bed, they stayed awake in silence, in the dark for a while. Jay was laying on his back with his arm wrapped around Ivy as he played with her hair, Ivy was resting her head on jays chest and they just savoured the love they had for each other before they dozed off to sleep while still holding each other.
