A simple life 2...

I need her

They all sat back down at their desks to finish up on paper work, they were finding leads and links to previous cases. "Alright guys, you can go home. Carry on in the morning" Hank said while yawning. The unit nodded and left the paper work on their desks, the girls headed into the locker room and the boys started to chat away. Jay had the situation from before on his mind, "hey sarge, can I talk to you?" Jay said while making his way over to hanks office. Hank nodded and jay shut his office door behind him, he sat down in front of his boss and sighed.

"Do you not think it's in Ivys best interest to bench her?" Jay said painstakingly. Hank smiled but shook his head, "no, I need her. The unit needs her" he said sternly. Jay screwed up his face and groaned, "come on sarge, you know what Yates is capable of. He's after her, more than he wants anyone else" he said getting kind of annoyed. Hank put out his arms to the side, "there's no reason to bench her, he's done nothing. Besides this is gonna be a long case, could be months, you just want her to sit out because of a small incident?" Hank said reasonably. Jay looked back into the bullpen and looked at Ivy talking to the girls, "No, I know, I just...I can't lose her" jay said while stressing out.

Hank grabbed out his canter of whiskey and two glasses, he poured them both a drink and passed jay his glass. He smiled before reasoning with jay, "look I don't care if you're sleeping with her, I don't care how much you love her. She's a part of this unit. So for now she'll be working the case but if anything happens, anything that could put her in any danger...then I'll bench her. Got it?" Hank questioned more like an order while taking a sip from his glass. Jay realised he would be getting no say in it so he nodded weakly and drank the whiskey whole.

They talked about other things until they realised the time, they had been talking for about half an hour. "I better get going, see you tomorrow..." jay said while getting up to leave. Hank nodded and dismissed him. He walked out into the bullpen to see Ivy sat on his desk, "sorry, i didn't realise the time" he apologised for keeping her waiting. She laughed, "it's fine, you ready?" She said while getting up and handing him his jacket. He nodded and put on the jacket, he wrapped his arm around her and they walked out to his car side by side. They drove back to his place and talked the whole way home, as they were about to get out of the car she noticed wills truck. "Hey isn't that wills?" She said while walking around the trunk to meet jay. He looked over to the car she was pointing at, "yeah...yeah it is" he said curiously. Ivy nodded in suspicion, "I didn't know he was coming over tonight?" She said as they walked into the elevator. Jay shrugged his shoulders, "no, neither did I..." he said. They were both clueless and kind of concerned.

              When they opened the door to let themselves in they had a shock to see Natalie and Will stood waiting for them, "hey guys? What're you doing here?" Jay said suspiciously.  Will and Natalie laughed since both jay and Ivy were looking at them like they had 6 heads, neither of them answered.  Instead Natalie pulled out her hand and lifted it up in the air to show a big sparky wedding ring, "oh my god! I'm so happy for you guys!" Ivy squealed in excitement while pulling the now engaged couple into a hug.  Jays face grew wide with excitement, "congrats! This is big news" he said while pulling his brother into a hug, then Natalie.  They all stood smiling and laughing for a while, the girls were stood by the kitchen island admiring the beautiful ring and the boys were stood on the opposite side of the living area watching them. 

             "So when's the wedding?" Jay said to them both.  Will and Nat shared a smirk, "as of today, two weeks..." Natalie said knowing it would cause some shock.  Jay and Ivy shot each other astounded glares, "that soon?" Jay said while raising his voice in shock.  Will laughed, "yeah, we wanna get it out of the way before the baby's born. It'll be easier without a newborn baby screaming the church down" he said while smiling.  Jay and Ivy knew there was a baby on the way but this was a shock to their system, "smart" Ivy said jokingly.  They all sat down on the couch, the brothers and Ivy had a beer but nat had a glass of water.  Will and nat whispered something to each other which made jay and Ivy who were sat closely next to each other share curious thoughts, "we have a big question for you both..." Will said which caught their attentions.

              The couple stared at Will and Nat waiting for them to ask away, "jay, will you be my best man?" Will said while smiling at his brother.  Jay smiled and nodded, "yes of course!" He said before pulling Will into a bro hug.  Nat looked at ivy next, "Ivy, will you be my maid of honour?" She said with a grin.  Ivy laughed and nodded, "of course I will!" She said before hugging her tightly.  The four adults shared a night of laughter and celebration before Nat added one last thing as the newly engaged couple went to leave, "by the way Ivy, the dress appointment is tomorrow after your shift...".  Ivy smiled widely in excitement, "can't wait!" She said while waving the pair out.

The sudden news left jay and Ivy in shock, they were happy but it was one big surprise. "Well that's one way to brighten up someone's day..." jay joked as he pulled Ivy back down on the couch. Ivy laughed and agreed, "sure is". They watched a film and cuddled until it finished, jay couldn't help but wonder when he would get the chance to propose to Ivy, and Ivy couldn't wait to take the next chapter in her life by saying yes to him. When the film ended they got up and tidied before heading off to bed, they slept close to each other and Ivy could feel his warm breath on her neck. She smiled with her eyes closed and dozed off to sleep.
