Wasn't that enough?

Once Ivy was cleared she walked back over to the unit with jay, "are you okay?" Hank said double checking with Ivy. Ivy smiled and nodded, "yeah, I'm good to go" she said eagerly. Hank nodded and they headed inside the house. The bomb squad finally showed up, better late than never but they cleared the house and it was now an active crime scene.

Jay stared at Ivy with worry throughout the whole investigation, "so where'd you take cover?" Antonio said impressed.  The whole unit was gathered in what was left of the room, "in that drawer" Ivy said while pointing to a small box cabinet.  The team all looked at her, "how'd you even get in there?" Adam said in shock.  Ivy laughed, "I'm a small gal" she smiled but got on with the investigation.

Once they had collected all that they could they headed back to the district, they all drove with their partners just like how they arrived.  Hailey could sense jays tension in the car, "she's okay jay you can relax" she said reassuringly.  Jay frowned, "yeah I know. It's just, what if that filing cabinet wasn't there, what if I lost her..." he said full of doubt and regret.  Hailey smiled but kept her eyes on the road, "that's a risk she had to take jay, I know you want to protect her at all times but sometimes things get too tricky and we just gotta let it happen" hailey gave him some good advice.  Jay listened to her, "yeah you're right but you know what yates is capable of, I don't want it getting out of hand, I mean he is after her..." jay said.  Hailey couldn't even defend Ivy on that one because it was the truth, yates was out for Ivy and if she wasn't benched from field work now, she would be dead sooner or later.

When they arrived back at the district they went straight up into the bullpen, the evidence was checked through once again.  "Sarge you got a minute?" Jay said while peeping his head into hanks office.  "Yeah, come in" Hank said knowing exactly what this was about.  He cut jay off before he could even have his say, "you want her benched I know..." he said with a sigh.  Jay looked at him in approval, "yeah I do. Wasn't that enough? She nearly died today..." jay said while slightly raising his voice.  Hank looked at him and smiled as he raised his hand to quieten him down since Ivy was looking at Hank through the glass door in confusion.  "Fine, but for only field work. We still need her working up here" Hank compromised with him.  Jay looked at Hank gratefully, "thank you... I better go tell her. Don't think she'll like me for it but I don't care. She's safer this way" he said while standing up to join his team mates.

"Ivy...we gotta talk" jay said which caught everyone's attention.  She looked nervous but followed him anyways.  He took her down to the cage room since that was where everything was private and no one could hear them.  "Jay? What is it, you're scaring me..." she said with furrowed eyebrows.  Jay smiled sadly at her, "I know you wanna help on this case, but you're benched for field work..." he spat out the truth.  Ivy raised her arms in disbelief, "what the heck! Why?" She said in a bitter tone.  Jay looked at her with concern, "because he's after you. I almost lost you today. I love you Ivy and Im not gonna sit by and watch him dig your grave when I have the opportunity to save you right now..." he said also raising his voice slightly.

"It's part of the job jay..." she lowered her voice trying to reason with him.  He walked closer to her, "I know it is but this...is too dangerous" he said with tears in his eyes.  She looked at him sadly realising that he would stress and lose sleep if she didn't accept that it was the right thing to do.  She took his hands and looked up to him.  "If it makes you feel better then it's fine by me" she said understandingly.  Jay smiled and pulled her into a hug with his lips resting on her head, "I'm only worried because I love you, you know that right?" He mumbled since he didn't wanna move from the hug.
She let out a small laugh, "yeah I know, I love you too" she replied while holding him tighter.

They made their way back up to join the team and Hank was stood leaning against his office door, "I take it she listened to you then" he said noticing the couple were smiling.  Ivy laughed and sat down at her desk to finish up the days paper work, jay smiled, "yeah, in the end..." he said while playfully rolling his eyes.  The rest of the unit were all extremely confused, "uhhhhh what's going on on?" Adam said to all three of them.  Hank laughed, "Ivys benched from all field work until yates is locked up, she'll still be working up here but when we're going out she's not coming" Hank said protectively while looking at her.  Ivy smiled knowing he only done it in her best interest.  The rest of the unit nodded and agreed it was the best idea.

They all cracked on with paper work with regards to what happened at the house, jay looked a lot more relaxed now that she was benched. "Alright guys see you tomorrow" Hank dismissed them all since it was late.  The team gatherers their belongings and left as one big group, jay and Ivy walked at the back holding hands under his jacket.

When they arrived home they made mac'n'cheese and then ate it. "What am I meant to do while you guys are out catching the bad guys?" She said jokingly.  Jay laughed and smiled, "become president, watch paint dry, have a party...do what you want I don't care, as long as you're safe" he said while pulling her closer to him.  She smiled at his protectiveness and embraced his touch, she looked up and kissed him, he leaned in and kissed her back before they got up and went to bed.
