i know it sounds like angst but i got this GREAT idea (sorta barista au) jeremy is dating christine

michaels pov
ding!

i hear the bell ring and rush to the from counter to see jeremy and christine coming into the coffee shop, holding hands. i try to suppress a frown and wait for them to approach.

"hello, my favorite couple," i joke, "what can i get you?" i ask.

jeremy smiles at me and laughs, "hey micha, i'll just have a hot chocolate with milk chocolate, please."

"and have a peppermint mocha with whipped cream." christine chirps.

"alright, that'll be $7.50" i say. jeremy hands me a $10 bill and i hand his change back to him. as soon as their backs are turned i drop my smile and work on their drinks. i don't hate christine, she's an angel and really nice, i just hate jeremy and christine together. as a couple.

~the next day~

ding! goes the bell above the door and i look up, my eyes widening. christine... and jake, holding hands. i shook my head and got ready to take their order, maybe it was just a friend thing. me and jeremy used to hold hands when we were younger.

christine kisses jake on the cheek before she and i make eye contact and she gives me a glare, basically saying "don't tell anyone."

i nod my head subtly and take their orders.

after they sit down at a table, i take out my phone and pretend to check something on it, typing a text to my best friend explaining the situation.

i was about to send it to jeremy, but i stopped. should i really tell him over text, he should know in person. just then someone outside catches my eye.

jeremy.

well, fuck.

he was about to enter the coffee shop when i assumed he spotted the scene through the window. i watched him as he ran down the sidewalk and panicked.

"hey, heather." i whisper.

"yea?" heather macnamera, my coworker, responds.

"can you cover for me real quick?" i ask politely.

"of course, mike. just be back soon." she scolds. i smile and sneakily head out the back door, running the direction jeremy went.

out of breath, i stopped at the nearby park, looking frantically for my best friend. my eyes finally landed on a pile of blue fabric huddled up on a bench.

i sigh sadly and head there, just to hear jeremy crying lightly, knees to his chest. i sit down next to him and tap his shoulder.

he flinches and looks up. his eyes were red and his face was tear-stained but i couldn't help but think he was still so beautiful.

"micha?" he asked.

"hmm." i hum in response.

"god, why was i so stupid." he groans. "of course christine would cheat on me. i'm such a dumbass loser."

"hey! you are not a loser, jeremy." i almost yell. it really hurts me when he puts himself down like that, "if christine can't see why you're so amazing and beautiful and caring, then she's missing out. she's the loser."

jeremy smiles through his tears and latches onto me. i chuckle and rub his arm while his crying slows down. he stuffs his face in my shoulder as i wrap my arm around him protectively.

"shhh... it's gonna be okay, jerebear." i reassure.

i really wish jeremy could see himself the way i do. i mean, sure he's got flaws, but who doesn't? what matters is that he's sweet and caring and owns up to his mistakes unlike some girl that i won't name.

i look back at jeremy to see him typing out a text to... christine? i secretly read it.

jeremy: christine, we need to break up. i saw you with jake. it's over, goodbye.

he hits send and slouches against me with a sigh.

"hey, how about we go back to the coffee shop of they aren't there." i offer. "i can get you a hot chocolate."

he seems to respond to that and stands up, grabbing my hand. i give his hand an affectionate squeeze and we walk back to the coffee shop.

"you know i still think it's weird that you drink hot chocolate in fall." i comment as were halfway there.

"oh shut up, i'm cold-blooded." jeremy jokes.

i open the door for jeremy and he enters the coffee shop, looking for christine or jake. they already left, which was nice.

jeremy sat down and i fixed him his drink, putting my money in the cash register and walking out to his table.

weirdly, no one else was here, except heather, who was probably in the back right now. i sat next to my best friend and handed him his drink.

"thanks." he smiled a bit.

"how ya feeling?" i ask the dumbest question of all time.

"to be honest, pretty shitty... but also sorta relieved. i never really liked christine, i think the only reason i was so upset was because of the reality that someone was cheating on me. it wasn't really focused on her." he explains.

i nod and lean my head in my hand, watching jeremy in a totally not creepy way as he drinks his steaming drink.

my face flushes when he gets a little mustache made of whipped cream, because we all know jeremy can't grow facial hair for shit.

i giggle and grab a napkin, wiping his upper lip with it. i see his usually pale cheeks turn red as i throw the napkin to the side.

"you're blushing, heere." i say smoothly.

he looks away, mumbling, "shut up." but still leans his head on my shoulder and smiles.

"you're cute." i mutter under my breath, and surprisingly, jeremy doesn't hear me.

"hey michael?" shit, maybe he did heere me.

"yes?"

"i feel better now that i'm with my player two." jeremy smiles up at me.

"jeremy, we all know i'm player one." i deadpan.

"damnit, i thought i could get away with that." he giggled. "well the point is, i feel better." jeremy concludes, leaning on my shoulder once more.

i sigh and we just sit together.

"michael!" heather shouts.

i jump up, causing jeremy to back away, "shit! i forgot about work."

jeremy giggles and pats me on the back, "go finish your shift, dumbass."

"wow. thanks." i joke and get back to work.

~the shift ends finally~

i come out from the back of the shop, shocked. there jeremy was, snoring with his head on his arms. my face burns red and i approach him quietly.

i sit next to the sleeping boy and shake him a bit, "jeremyyyy. dude, wake up. i'm gonna leave without you."

jeremy scrunches his nose up and flutters his eyes open. he yawns and rubs his eyes like an adorable kitten waking up from a catnap.

i realized i was staring and quickly whipped my head the other way.

i feel arms around me, and looking over my shoulder, i'm met with jeremy latching onto me. he smiles up at me and continues nuzzling into my shoulder.

"alright, jere, let's go home." i murmur, saying a quick goodbye to heather and picking jeremy up bridal-style, because it takes forever for jeremy to wake up properly.

"michael?" jeremy murmurs sleepily from my arms.

"yes, maha— i mean... jere?" i stutter.

"thanks for everything." the pale boy smiles at me.

"of course, jerebear." i smile back and set my best friend in the passenger seat of my car.

things are gonna be just fine.

i got bored and didn't know how to finish this
