michaels pov
my prince training is finally over, now i get to rescue a princess.... yay. if you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm.

most princes would be ecstatic to rescue a beautiful princess, but not me, for one reason and one reasons only, i'm gay.

as gay as a rainbow, basically.

and neither of my parents know, though i think my mom is catching on by how hesitant i am to rescue a princess.

"alright, mahal, are you ready to go? do you have everything packed?" my mom asked, standing at the foot of my bed as i rummaged through my bag.

"moooommm, do i really have to?" i whine.

"michael, stop whining, you're a prince and you're 17." my mom scolds.

"b-but, i don't think i'm ready to rescue someone, what if we don't click or they're not... my type." i complain.

"shush, you'll do fine, sweetheart. now here's a map, follow the red path and you'll be there in about two days." my mom explains, handing me the rolled up peace of paper.

"wait, this is a different path than the map dad gave me." i point out, confused.

my mom leans in and whispers, "michael, don't play dumb. i know you're gay, that path will lead you to a prince locked in a tower."

i flush out of embarrassment and groan, "was it that obvious?"

my mom nods and exits the room.

i sigh and laugh a bit. rolling the map up and stuffing it in my pocket, grabbing my bag full of food and materials, and slinging it over my shoulder.

i said a quick goodbye to my parents and head off to the horse stables.

"hey, everest. you ready to go, boy?" i greet my horse to which he huffs in response.

as i was about to get on my horse, a certain dragon climbed onto my shoulder. i groan and face him, "smokey, no. you can't come with me." (the goodbye song starts playing in the background)

smokey growls in response.

"smokey, i said no." i scold.

he makes another dragon noise.

"you know what? fine, you can join me." i roll my eyes in defeat and get on my horse, smokey flying besides me as we head off into the forest.

~a few hours later~

i was getting tired and decided to stop for the night since it was getting dark, but before i could stop, someone almost ran into everest, causing the animal to freak out.
