"I..I didn't expect to see you here." The words left your mouth in a white puff of smoke, highlighting the chill the air.
Sleep hardly came easy to you. One could assume that waking up in the back of an execution wagon would do that to a person. This newly acquired beast blood only made your condition intensify. Truth be told, even before your misfortunes you always felt more awake at night. Especially nights like these, not a cloud obstructing the ethereal sight of the aurora and it's elegant dance with the constellations. Though there was no word to compare the feeling the sight invigorated. There wasn't any denying it was beautiful.
However unlike most of your nights spent alone observing the celestial beauty at your usual perch atop Jorvaskr's roof, you weren't alone. Almost exactly where you usually would lay was the unmistakable large form of your shield brother, Farkas.
Upon your greeting the burly man gave a mirthful grin, an expression that wasn't nearly as foreign to you as it was to others.
"Yeah, same to you dragonborn." He spoke softly, his breath pluming in white smoke just like your own. "Couldn't sleep."
His muscular arms came up to rest his head as he laid back, raven hair splaying around in effect. "Me either." Was your reply, a small smile beginning to form on your previously numb face.
Although he had no words in response he tilted his head to the spot next to him, gesturing for you to join him.
Ever since dustman's carin, farkas and yourself found each other's company comforting. As silly as it sounded, you'd both confide in each other about trivial things like his newfound fear of spiders and anything else that plagued his mind. For a person who claimed to not be good with words, he sure did have a lot to say once you shared a few drinks. So your comically quick pace to oblige to his gesture was understandable.
Taken your place by his side you sighed. "It's beautiful isn't it?" You whispered, the peacefulness of the moment not going unnoticed.
"Hm?..what?" Unbeknownst to you he wore a smirk on the side of his face unrevealed to your gaze, trying to not laugh.
Your brow rose curiously. Turning your body fully onto your side before propping your head on your hand to get a better look at him. Seeing his expression you couldn't help but giggle.
"The woodworking the ancient nords did to Jorvaskr of course." Despite your efforts to try to speak, your voice betrayed you as it wavers behind your laughing. Any little bit of tiredness you may felt being replaced by a cozy happiness.
Much to your delight a robust laugh erupted from him, the steel on his chest plates glistening in the moonlight as they moved. You could've stayed in that moment forever. Although you weren't together in the romantic sense, there wasn't another person you could think of now that you'd rather spend time like this with. Of course, it would be a lie if you ever said you didn't desire your shield sibling but with how things were going, you were happy with this. For now at least.
"Yes...it is." He breathlessly finally answered, cringing at the bittersweet pain in his sides from laughing. "The woodwork and the sky that is. But..it's better to enjoy both with you shield-sister. Let's do this more often." His deep grumble sent shivers down your spine.
Experimentally you inched closer to his side, gasping whenever the cold steel of his armor made contact with your considerably warmer skin. However the shock only intensified whenever a fur clad arm came down around your shoulders to pull you in closer.
"Sure, um..tomorrow night? "Sounds good to me."
