Into The Mirror

Chapter 1

"And where do you think you're going?" A hand reached out and grabbed the back of Subin's clothes. He knew that voice all too well. He contemplated making a run for it, but decided that wouldn't be a smart move.  

"Why does it matter?" Subin rolled his eyes at the look on Seungwoo's face when he turned around.

"You're seriously asking me that?" He sighed. "Look, I know you don't like being stuck here but you need to be safe, and it is my job to ensure that! You don't know how dang-"

"Yes, yes I know. How dangerous the world outside the palace walls is. But it's so boring here!" Subin whined. "There is literally nothing to do."

"There is. You just don't bother to spare a thought about it."

Subin knew he wouldn't win an argument against Seungwoo, well not unless he used what he knew would make him win.

Subin put on his best puppy-dog look and pouted at the older. 

"Don't look at me like that! You know Seungsik will kill me if I let you go." Seungwoo trailed off, seeing that the younger wasn't going to give up so easily.

"But Seungsik hyung isn't here at the moment."

"Fine." He sighed when Subin cheered. "1 hour, that's all you're getting. Any longer and I'll send Hanse to get you and  I'll also tell Seungsik about this when he gets back."

"Sure. Thanks hyung!" He pecked the royal guards cheek before hurrying off towards the palace gates, before turning around to look back at Seungwoo, who was smiling fondly at the younger. Subin knew he would stand there and watch him leave the grounds before continuing his duties.

"Byungchan hyung was looking for you, by the way!" He giggled at the older reaction, whose eyes widened slightly before hurrying off to find the other prince.

Subin knew the way into the town centre from the palace well, having snuck out many times to explore beyond the walls that confined him. He found the palace to be suffocating, especially considering he was the youngest and most 'precious' prince, who everyone wanted to 'look after' - more like baby. 

He had two older brothers, Byungchan and Seungsik, both of whom acted more like princes than Subin did, and both were more suited to do so. Between the two of them and Seungwoo, they pretty much raised him, due to their parents being away on business so much. Although the King and Queen did care about their sons, they were frequently away, making deals with other Kingdoms, or meeting other royals for special meetings - either way they were almost always away, leaving the princes with the palace. The one thing the King knew was that his eldest son was capable of taking care of matters in the Mirror Kingdom while they were gone. 

Seungwoo and Hanse were both royal guards, and between them (and many others) it was their job to keep the three princes safe. Although the five of them where close, Subin always felt left out, considering Hanse was quite close Byungchan, and Seungwoo was practically Seungsik's best friend. He was also pretty sure that there was something going on between Seungwoo and Byungchan, but he wasn't going to say anything. 

He also missed being able to spend time with Chan, one of all the princes closest friends, who he barely saw anymore. Chan always went with Seungsik no matter where he was going, meaning he was currently away with Seungsik, as per usual. 

That's why he liked going into the town, because he could get away from everything that made him feel different from the others around him, he could pretend to be someone else, something he couldn't do in the palace. Another thing was that even though the people of the town knew him, yet still treated him as a normal human being, not trying to impress him or even throw themselves on him, which has happened to him before. 

They did, however, still address him as 'your highness', which annoyed him, but you couldn't really blame them. 

Most people had a large amount of respect for the royal family.
