"Did you find out who that man was - the one who tried to attack us?" Subin didn't want to outwardly acknowledge that Sejun did in fact kill that man.
They had ended up staying out until the sun was setting, before retreating into the forest once it had started to get dark. Sejun figured it might be safer there than out in the open at night, despite the constant threat of pretty much everything because he was with a prince. Subin was just surprised that nobody had come looking for them, he thought Seungsik would have sent someone to find him by now, considering how upset he was about him leaving the palace by himself the times before. They were sat either side of a small fire, that was giving off enough heat to keep them both warm in the cool spring night air.
Sejun was hoping that Subin wouldn't want to talk about what had happened, or want to know who it was, because Sejun did in fact know who it was.
"I, uh, yeah. I did." He nodded along with his words.
The prince looked at him suspiciously. "What are you hiding?"
"Me?" He placed a hand on his chest. "Nothing! I was just answering your question."
"You knew him, didn't you?"
The older huffed. "You're too smart for your own good sometimes."
"When I'm not needing to be saved from creepy men." The younger joked, trying to relieve some of the tension that had settled over the two. It felt weird, there had never really been any tension between the two of them.
"I didn't exactly know him personally, but I knew who he was. I really shouldn't be telling you this."
Subin looked at him, trying his best to get Sejun to continue talking, he needed to know what he was going to say. The assassin shook his head, before continuing.
"My boss used to employ him, and at one point we were the two best assassins he had, but he left a few years ago because of a drunken argument that got heated. He was employed by another person wanting someone to do their dirty work, and I guess that's how he ended up here last night. My boss wasn't pleased to find out."
"You went back?" Subin didn't know why he was surprised, it was Sejun's 'job' after all.
"I did."
The younger fell silent, staring into the flames and thinking as the fire crackled away, filling the silence.
"Why would someone want to attack us?"
"More like you, Subin. You're a prince. Imagine the chaos that would happen if someone killed you. He only went for me because he knew he would have to get through me first."
The prince didn't know why Sejun's words had affected him so much, but it finally hit him that people would actually go after him and kill him, and it terrified him. Before, he thought that people wouldn't go after him because he was the youngest prince and people paid so little attention to him usually, that it would make no sense. He thought people would target his brothers - especially Seungsik - because they did more for the Kingdom than him, but oh how wrong he was.
"Hey." The older moved to sit next to the prince, seeing the look on his face and his reaction to what he had just said. "I didn't mean to scare you, I'm sorry."
