"Why is your couch ripped up into shreds?" You said as you looked down to take a sip of your cup of tea. As you lifted it to your lips, your eyes met Hagrids as he sat in silence, contemplating an answer.
"Well, you see, there was a minor incident with one of me good friends, Tugger." You looked down into his own cup of tea and took a long sip. Obviously this was a topic he didn't want to talk about. You didn't press on.
"I've made friends. Luna Lovegood is my roommate, and Fred and George Weasley are friends of mine. I think."
"Yeh think? While I'd say you'd aught to figure that out. I think they would like you though. I think yer friends." He smiles softly and sat back in his chair enjoying his tea. This was the most relaxed you had felt in a long time.
"Thanks for taking care of Kiki today, she needs lots of time to hop around the grass. Otherwise she gets too energetic." As you spoke you turned your head around the kitchen trying to spot your little rabbit. "You didn't lose her already, right?" You were laughing but Kiki does tend to jump out at you without having made any noise. It was dangerous considering the size of Hagrids foot, he would have made her into a pancake.
"Oh no don't worry about it, she's out in the garden eatin' some of the greens I have out there." He nodded his head toward the window where you could see a small but colourful garden.
"I'm happy she likes it here. I'll come and pick her up once I'm done with extra studies tonight." Because you had been so late to the school year, every Friday is "extra studies" with professor Flitwick. It's very helpful, you can bring work you're struggling with and he will provide extra lessons on what you had missed.
"I had better get going, lunch break is going to be over soon. Thank you so much for the tea Hagrid, and for everything else." As you walked to the door you turned around and smiled softly at him. Everything you had was owed to him.
As you laced your your shoes, you turned to open the door as someone else knocked on it. "I'll get it." You said as you over an inch toward the door. You opened it so see the golden trio, in the flesh.
"Oh hello. Welcome!" You tried to be as warm and nonchalant as possible, but they were too surprised to return the favour.
"What are you doin here?" Ron spat out awfully quick. He didn't mean to to be rude you supposed, he was just confused. Hermione jolted and slapped his arm.
"What he means to say is hello." She smiled and stepped forward passed Harry, who couldn't even think of words to say.
"It's actually quite convenient that you're here, we wanted to apologize. It wasn't right to have judged you. It's just we've had some ugly encounters with death eaters ourselves sand we have to stay alert."
"That makes perfect sense. I've had some nasty encounters myself. Here a tip, I spread a rumour about a year ago that if you look directly into the eyes of Harry Potter, the dark mark allows you to see the eyes of Voldemort instead." You looked into Harry's eyes, making an evil face. You opened your mouth to speak but you were interrupted.
"That's not very helpful." Ron said as he gave you and everyone else a confused look. Hermione slapped him again.
"Not yet, but I also spread a rumour a few months prior to that that the dark lord will kill you if you look directly into his eyes. The rumours became a superstition only amongst lower ranking death eaters because they've never met him before. So they wouldn't even know. In the end, it's all just a silly superstition but quite a few of them take it seriously. Anyways, moral of the story is if somebody is avoiding eye contact with you-and is for other reasons suspicious- they're probably a low ranking death eater."
"Oh." Ron said shocked.
"We will most definitely keep an eye out for that." Harry said and turned to Hermione.
"Well anyways, I have to go. Do you know where Fred and George are? I'm pretty sure that they're going to test out a snack they're invented on a student and I would like to at least be there."
Ron rolled his eyes. You were just like his brothers. Everyone else was holding hope you would say you wanted to stop them, but they let that expectation go disappointedly, but with a better understanding of you.
"Try just outside the main hall. They like to catch the first years going in." Ron said as he turned to enter the hut.
"I'll catch them on the way. By Hagrid, thanks again!" You walked off into the grass, turning to wave goodbye to Kiki in the garden. There she was, munching on fresh lettuce. You felt at ease knowing she was well taken care of.
