"Since you all leave on Monday, I suggest you start packing once you return to your dorms." Professor McGonagall looked to you but quickly looked away, hoping she didn't draw too much attention to you. "And for those of you who are staying here at Hogwarts, there will be no classes for you to attend. So however you choose to spend your Christmas holidays, have a lovely break and I'll see you all back here in two weeks."
The class began to cheer, but shut up immediately after McGonagall shushed them. You gathered your books and walked out the classroom. George was several seats behind you, so he stopped you before you could leave.
"And where are you going?" He inquired.
"The dorms." You responded casually. You didn't want to bring up the fact you were staying here for Christmas. It was a rather obvious fact, but too desperate to announce.
"I'll follow."
"The Ravenclaw dorms, George. We've had this discussion before, you can't enter."
"A pity that is. Let's go somewhere else!" He was grasping at straws to keep your attention on him.
"And where would that be? Don't you have to pack?"
"I'm a last minute packer. I don't know if you know this, but I'm a procrastinator."
"I never would have guessed." You said sarcastically.
You casually grabbed his right hand and held it in your left hand. You walked out the classroom together, leaving many people confused as to your relationship. But they didn't matter in the moment. You both were walking down the halls, taking random turns, just trying to make sure you didn't have to let go of each other's hands.
"I'd like to go to the library. I need to return a book."
"Boring. Too quiet."
"Fine. But you owe me a library date, you hear that stilts?" You looked at him intimately.
"That's new. Where'd stilts come from?"
"You're tall."
"So creative," he rolled his eyes. "But I may need a new name."
"Stretch?"
"Try again."
"Toothpick."
"Colder."
"Freckle face?" This one was iffy. Too long.
"Descriptive, but doesn't quite roll off the tongue."
"Red."
He paused for a moment and looked up at the ceiling to ponder.
"I like that. I can live with it. You're going to need a new one as well." He opened his mouth to suggest something, but you stopped him.
"Not now. Anything that comes out of your mouth right now will be garbage."
"You haven't even-"
"I can tell. We can cover my nickname when we sit down somewhere." You jut were silent for a moment, trying to think of a nice space to sit down. And then it hit you.
"Picnic!" You shouted.
"PICNIC!" He returned your energy.
"We can go off near Hagrid's hut. I don't have my catch up lessons today since it's near the winter break, I'll go grab Kiki and we can drop her off at Hagrid's and have a little picnic." You smiled softly. The idea seemed very romantic. You were proud of yourself.
"Wicked. Go fetch your rabbit and I'll wait outside the tower. See you soon!" He let go of your hand and ran off, but before he could turn the corner he quickly turned to look at you, and blew you a dramatic kiss. You giggled to yourself, clutching your books as your heart raced out of your chest. It was hard trying to contain how you felt around him, but if you didn't you would just be constantly red, hot, shaky and vulnerable.
You walked off to the Ravenclaw tower to grab Kiki. You walked up the stairs and approached the entrance.
"I'm so tired of this. Just let me in! I don't need to prove my wit to you whenever I need my own room." Your complaining was futile and you knew it.
"What am I?" It said to you with no emotion.
"You've got to me kidding me."
"I can't answer that for you, big bird."
There was a long pause of silence. Obviously it didn't appreciate sarcasm.
"Ok fine...you're a..." this one took a moment but you figured it out.
"You're a question."
The door opened for you and you squeezed through the crack before it was fully open. You walked through the common room. People stopped looking at you the same way they used to. Maybe you were old news. They just laughed when you were with Luna.
You jogged up the spiral staircase that led to the dorms, and entered the one that was yours and Luna's. You grabbed Kiki, who was sitting comfortably on your bed. At this point, Hagrid had set aside a small patch of his garden to feed Kiki. She even has her own fluffy blanket on the couch. Needless to say, Hagrid was prepared enough that you didn't need to pack anything for her.
"We're off to Hagrid's now." You gently picked her up and held her to your chest. "You can return to that nap once you've settled down again."
You hurried back down the stairs and out of the tower. You left the grounds and approached a large grassy field that stretched past the school, the hut not far. You looked around hoping to see George, but he wasn't in sight.
"He's probably late."
You walked down the field to the hut. You knocked on the door as Hagrid answered.
"Good to see ye y/n! Kiki, you too. Come on in." He gestured for you to enter.
"Hi Hagrid. How've you been?" You took off your shoes at the door.
"Well, not amazing. I did read that paper you handed in about handling the Hippogriff. That was more of an extra credit paper though you realize."
"Why wouldn't I? Who doesn't love some extra work on something so fun and easy!"
"Oh my god I sound like a nerd."
"I guess I just didn't peg you the type to do the extra homework is all." He laughed, but realized how that sounded and was silent for a moment.
"Me neither I suppose. But Hippogriffs are so...majestic! I loved reading about them-"
"I didn't realize I was dating a dork." George peeked around the corner with a large blanket in hand.
"I didn't realize I was dating an eavesdropper." You crossed your arms.
"Fair game," he stepped closer, arms still golden around the large red gingham blanket. "But I am going to have to take your dorky-ness into consideration when we come up with that pet name."
"Shut up and take me on a picnic." You stood closer to him, your hands behind your back and your head tilted up at his face. You were only a few feet away from each other, but the magnetism was strong.
"I'm gonna step back. Take what you want from the kitchen." Hagrid awkwardly stepped back before you had the chance to respond.
"I've got all the snacks we need." Something about George's smirk told you something was iffy about it. But he hasn't disappointed you so far.
"Then off we go."
