"heeeeey sunghoooon!" he almost lost his balance, startled by the sudden halt of the silence that reigned over the place, yet had to be replaced by the loud girl hopping her way to him.

she abruptly halted her steps, seeing how ice started from where she stood, and she seemed to be hesitating for some good seconds, before she gave him a look.

"step in." he cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled, staring at her as a few seconds passed, then she shook her head. "no way, it's too thin and I'll fall in." she yelled back, as a chuckle escaped his lips.

"why? you think you're that fat for the ice to break?" he asked with his hands stuck on his hips, her hands tightly wrapped around her body to keep her warm. "that's what the scale said."

he scated his way to her and extended his hand. she looked at it for a couple of seconds, him insisting with a jerk of his head. "what are you waiting for, special invitation?"

a chuckle left his mouth, as she took his rather big palm into her little one and stepped in. immediately, her body reacted with wiggles and tight grips, him wrapping his arm around her waist.

"wait-" he exclaimed, making her look up and stop moving her feet. "o-okay, don't worry, I am holding you." his voice came out shaky, making her look up at him and smile. "thanks, I guess?"

he helped her up, one hand around her waist and the other gripping on her right hand as he kept his gaze nailed on his skates.

silence fell between the two, her eyes never leaving his face, as she's now able to make out the small details she's been deprived from the past days.

sunghoon's eyes were always covered by his bangs, that's why she always failed to make eye contact with him, however much both desired. his lips were thin and formed a straight line, but haneul has seen them at their best, when they formed the sweetest of all the smiles in the world.

but sunghoon was also able to have a closer look at her, tho his eyes didn't leave the ice a tad bit. a glance at her face was enough for the butterflies and the burning sensation inside his stomach to come back.

"are we going to stay like that?" lucky him, she dragged him out of the need to talk, or else he'd stumble upon his own words - not to mention how he'd sound like a choked up rooster.

"right." "left." she joked, her pointers moving from side to side as she shook her hips and wiggled her legs. "rip it, rip it - SUNGHOON HOLD ME!"

sunghoon started laughing at the way she desperately gripped on his jacket while trying to mantain her two feet stable and at one place, yet failed miserably and found herself on the ice with her legs wiggling in the air.

"haha, very funny - PLEASE HELP ME UP!" the boy had his arms wrapped up around his tummy and kept laughing, yet had to wipe his tears away and give her a hand after her consistent whining.

"I could have died." she muttered, as he looked at her before wiping off one more tear. "ice is my best friend, I'd never allow such a thing to happen." he said, taking her hand and leading her back to the land.

"stay here, it'd be safer for you. next time, I'll bring with me a pair of ice skates for you." she excitedly clapped while taking a seat on the grass, him skating his way back in the middle of the lake.

"that's what he said, and tomorrow at six we'll be meeting at the same place. oh my god heeseung, I can't wait!" she landed on her bed with a soft thud, as the boy looked at her over his phone.

"you like him this much?" he asked, as her head jerked up while she raised a brow. "me? sunghoon? of course not, he's just a friend."

"that's what everyone says. there's nothing wrong with you liking him, I was just curious. but don't you think  that it's a little too early to be having feelings for him?"

"eh?" "I mean, it's only been a week, and all you know about him is that he likes - no, loves skating. doesn't sound like something sunoo would approve." he crossed his arms over his chest, as she scratched her nape.

"I don't think liking someone works that way." "so you admit that you like him." "UGH HEESEUNG!" he raised his hands up in surrender and stood up with her still rambling a mess.

"yeah yeah, now stop-" a sigh. "just - don't let feelings blind you. maybe he ain't what you see, we see." her mind kept ringing with heeseung's weird statement, till she laid herself down and nailed her eyes on the ceiling.

"oh gosh." she rubbed her eyes with her palms, sighing deeply with eyes almost tearing up. why did that hurt her so much? geez, he just voiced his opinion, it's not like she's obliged to follow it.

heeseung buddy, well done...and yes, that was ironic.

"hey sunghoon." she texted, in hope that the boy will reply, which he of course did after a second. she let out a gasp. "woah, that was fast!"

"have I ever told you that I'm flash?" he replied, a wink face at the end as she smiled. "pfft - yeah, and I'm the one and only wonder woman."

"sure you do." a smiley face, and her cheeks almost lit up as she felt them with her cold palms. huh, it was just an emoji, a freaking emoji, what the actual hell?

"it's almost midnight, did something happen?" the notification bar made her jump out of her daydreaming, as she quickly replied back. "I was just thinking if we could hang out in the usual place tomorrow."

read.

oh shit-

shit shit shit! why left of read? did she ask for something too much for him? maybe it made him think of her as a creep? god help her-

a buzz. one more. and one more.

suddenly, his caller id flashed on the screen, making her almost fall off the bed. she picked up with lips puckered and voice soft and quiet. "hello?"

"you know, you could have just told me tomorrow, but I can see what is it that keeps you awake at night." with tease written in his voice, she let out a squeal, as she nodded (as if he could see her, the impact of being in love).

"uhm...whatever. anyways, are you down for it?" she asked, a rather long hum coming from the other line, only making her the more anxious. "well, why not? besides, I have a surprise for you."

"OH REALLY?" she exclaimed, then remembered to lower her voice for her parents being downstairs. "I can't wait." she whispered, the boy letting out a small laugh as he hummed.

"okay, I'll pick you up. good night." he mumbled tiredly, her nose scrunching up. "oh my, go and sleep sunghoon." "huh, caring are we?"

"me? I only want you to wake up and bring me the surprise, nothing more, oh dear park sunghoon. but hey, just sleep." she hastily added, biting on her fingernails as the boy chuckled.

"I'll be off to bed. sweet dreams." a smooching sound, her letting out a squeal of cringe. "eww, feels like I'm talking with my boyfriend. good night to you too hoon, dream of me."

and the heart flutter went on for the rest of the night, both youngsters now feeling too giddy to sleep.
