“George…” Isabella mumbled, walking into the bedroom and kneeling onto the bed, hanging her arms either side of his shoulders.
He was currently sat on the edge, his eyes focused on his laptop screen as he typed and tapped away. He had been like this for the past few hours, unmoving and vacant from the world.
“How much longer are you going to be on there for?” She huffed, placing a kiss to the side of his neck to try and attract his attention.
“Not long baby, I need to get this done.” He hummed a response almost robotically.
“What are you even doing? You’ve been at it for hours.”
“Trying to find more out about Brent’s gang and who this Stan guy is.” He answered.
She was surprised he had actually given her a response, taking a moment to absorb it fully before beginning to probe him more.
“You need to stop George.” She said, pulling her hands away from his shoulders and taking a seat beside him. “You’re driving yourself crazy and pushing those closest to you away.”
It had been a few days since the big fight at the casino and not much had changed. When they all left, Jay and Nessa had gone straight to a hospital, with Jay silent the whole journey trying to comprehend what was going on, but also trying to be there for his girl.
Matt and Juliet had dispersed from the group almost immediately, with panic in her eyes due to Matt’s wounds, yet he remained almost calm.
The rest of the Gibson brothers had backed away and taken a well-earned break from everything, while George and Isabella had been cooped up in the small hotel room with him slowly losing his mind.
“Everything’s fine.” He replied, again sounding completely mechanical. He wasn’t truly there with her, he was engaged in the words and pictures displayed on his screen and Isabella didn’t like it, she didn’t like it one bit.
“Everything is not fine.” She slammed her hand down on the laptop, closing the screen immediately. “How can it be fine when 3 days ago you were this close to hospitalising one of your best friends?”
Now finally taking full interest of the girl sat beside him, George’s head turned, his mouth parted in shock, or contained anger… she couldn’t really tell which.
“I just need to find Stan and then get my money back Isabella.” He said sternly, scolding her like she was a child.
“Well you’re hurting and losing Matt and Jay while you’re at it.”
As George went to say something else, Isabella continued, not giving him chance to share more pathetic excuses.
“They’ve been there for you through everything, even offered to do the dirty work and get the money for you. Why are you treating them like this George?”
