“Jennie! Jennie!” I opened my eyes and saw Mino kneeling in front of me. He tucked my hair behind my ear. “You look miserable.”
“I am miserable.” I pushed his hand away. “Tell me, will I ever straighten my life?”
He cupped my cheeks like he used to do and said, “Yes you will. We will.” He stood, “C’mon. Where’s auntie?”
“I don’t care.”
“Let’s go. We don’t want to get wet in the rain do we?” He carried my suitcase and I followed him. It was almost night time and the sky was pretty dark. It would rain soon.
The first few minutes of our ride was silent but I managed to talk to him afterwards. “Where are we going?”
“My apartment.”
“What?” I almost shouted.
“My apartment. Jennie, it’s almost dark and you have nowhere to go.” He turned left. “Mind you, it will rain soon.”
“How about Jisoo?”
“I already called the police. They are searching for him now.” That made me shut my mouth but it didn’t quiet my thoughts. I was thinking of how I could find Jisoo myself.
“There ‘ya go. You can stay in the bed and I’ll sleep in the sofa.” He said as soon as we arrived in his apartment.
I just sat on the bed with my heart almost blank. I was surprised when Mino came with two mugs of hot milk. “Don’t worry. They’ll find him. Have some milk”
“Thanks.” I sipped some and reached for the remote control of the TV. I switched it on and the news break came on.
“… football player Kim Jisoo of Blackpink Stealers still is missing. The said player didn’t even attend the victory party of their team because he suddenly disappeared after the rematch of…”
Mino turned the TV off. “Why did you do that?”
“Because it makes you remember him more! Jennie, the police are looking for him now, don’t you understand?!”
“Yes I do understand! But I do not have any plans of waiting hopelessly for the police reports. I have to do something myself! Jisoo is gone, he can’t be found! I didn’t just shout at my mom for nothing! Are you a fool?”
“You are the fool! If in the first place you told Jisoo that you would leave, this wouldn’t happen at all!” I was taken aback. “If you simply told him that he probably wouldn’t see you for the rest of his life then he could have moved on! It’s that simple but you didn’t do it.”
“You know what…?” I stood. “You’re right. I’m stupid and I’m a fool for not telling him anything. Thank you for making me realize that Mino. I need to go now.” I slipped on my jacket and pulled my suitcase.
He stopped me. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say that. Stay here, you don’t have to go out. Crap. It’s raining outside!”
“No you were right. I will go find him because it’s my fault after all.” I went out and called a cab immediately.
"Jennie!” He cursed. “Come back here!”
I didn’t mind him. “Isn’t that the football star Mino?” The driver asked me. “He’s waving at me, look!”
“Yes, he is Mino. Let’s just go.”
“Where?”
“Just go… to nowhere.” I just whispered the last two words.
The rain poured hard on the cab’s roof and I almost couldn’t hear the radio because of its loudness. “Where are we heading, miss? I’ve been driving for almost an hour! Just tell me and I probably know how to get there.”
“I don’t know where to go.”
He cursed. “What are you trying to do? Heck, piss me?!” He stopped. “Two hundred fifty bucks and get out!” I pulled three hundreds from my wallet and went out. It was a miracle that the rain was almost stopping.
I looked around. I was somewhere familiar—somewhere near our old place. I smiled weakly at the sight of a football field. My football field, my place. Slowly, I walked and didn’t mind the raindrops that were falling on my head. “Looks like I’m here again… hating the world, hating myself and hating everything else.” Teardrops started to fall from my eyes. “I don’t even freakin’ know where Jisoo is. And because of that, I hate everything else.”
“Will you hate me too?” I heard a voice from my back and I turned around. Shock overwhelmed me. “What are you doing here? Can’t you feel it?” He opened his arms sideward. “It’s raining.”
History repeated itself
"fuck the rain!” I ran towards him and kissed him like there was no tomorrow. I pulled away and sucked in air. I was panting.
“I wouldn’t care being sick because of rain if the real reason is kissing someone hot.” Jisoo cupped my cheeks. “God knows how much I missed you.” He was still wearing his jersey and I was sure that right after the game, he ran away. “You didn’t even go to my game.”
“Uhm yes… about that, I—”
“Don’t be silly. I know about your Connecticut thing.” My eyes widened. “Nayeon told me.” I didn’t know if I would be thankful or mad. “And don’t worry. She isn’t mad or anything. She’s cool with us. I talked to her, really talked to her.”
“…I wish.”
“It is true and she promised me. She figured I couldn’t give her love back since my love is for you.” Aw. Cheesy.
“Okay, okay. You’re getting cornier by the minute, stop it.” He kissed me again.
He put his arm around my shoulder. “I don’t care being corny.” We started to walk and I noticed that the rain had stopped.
“Well I do care and I don’t want a corny boyfriend.”
“Hey hold on. Have I asked you to be my girlfriend? Mind you, I haven’t.” I eyed him. “Well, you wouldn’t mind being Mrs. Football Player eh?”
“What do you mean?”
“You know Mr. and Mrs. Football player. You gave me that name.” He smiled cutely.
“But the Mrs. thing, sounds scary.”
“Do you mind having a football team with me eh?”
“I don’t understand!” I almost shouted.
“Some things are left unsaid. You will find out in the right time.” OMG. Here goes the mysterious him.
“I hate you!”
“I love you too!”
