“You know, he probably will understand if you just tell him.” Mino threw the lotion to my luggage. Obviously, he was convincing me to tell Jisoo everything and helping me pack my things. School had just ended and in almost 12 hours, I’d go to our new flat in Connecticut.“Hey, that’s trash man.” I tossed the lotion bottle to the trash bin. “That won’t work. I know Jisoo than anyone else… I think.” I folded my sweater. “Besides, this is about his future. Not mine Mino You know, like I’m the so-so great destroyer of his future.”
“But you are a part of his future Jennie… for Pete’s sake, how many times do I have to tell you that?”
I just shrugged. “You don’t see the big picture Mino. I am just a dot in the whole thing. It’s like 90% football, 5% school, 4% other things and 1% me. One percent won’t matter that much bro.”
“Are you dense?” I was shocked. “Do you think he’ll do the whole football guy thing if you, as a part of his life, didn’t matter that much? Look—” he paused. “—whatever. It’s useless. Let’s continue the packing.”
After finishing my luggage, I went downstairs only to overhear the conversation of my mom and Mino
“This is a bit hard for both of us I know. Leaving and going to a new place. But I believe it’s a necessity for us to start again. You know, restore our relationship as a family and of course, be happy.”
“How about her boyfriend?”
“This is about her future, our future Mino. I don’t damn care about her boyfriend at this time.” I saw mom move out and apparently she saw me too.
I didn’t know if I were to be thankful or angry so I just smiled weakly.
“Hey Mino, what’s up again?” I went close to Mino just when the phone rang. “I’ll get it.”
“Yo.”
“Hey, hi cupcake.” Who else doesn’t know this guy?
“Hey yourself too. So, what’s up?” I signaled Mino that it was Jisoo, he just shrugged.
“Let’s go out today. You know, walking and playing and stuff.” He said like a child.
I hesitated but of course agreed. “Sure, meet you at five at the square okay?”
“Got it babe.”
Dressed in casual jeans and shirt, I went to the square.
“Jump in Jendeukie.” I heard Jisoo from my back who comfortably sat inside his car. “Am I too hot to take?”
I raised my shoulders and jumped in. “So, where are we going exactly?” His hand found mine as I relaxed.
“I just want to treat you to dinner. You know, graduation and everything.” I raised my eyebrow because I knew something was in. “Really, there is no more. Just eating somewhere and other good things.” I looked at him in the eye. “Okay. Look, we are just going to eat. No other stuff, unless you want to explore the body of a foot—"
“Jisoo!” I pulled my hand and punched his arm lightly. “Stop it.” I relaxed, “…You are impossible.”
“What?! I didn’t say anything nor implied something.” He laughed. “I was about to say the body of a foot long shark in the near museum… you know, the newly built museum.”
“Ha-ha, very convincing.” I told him and he held my hand again. I sighed. I was sure that I’d miss the warmth of his hand on mine and even his sweet voice on my ears.
“Is there something bothering you?” He asked.
“Actually there is…” I thought for a while and tried to put it to a sentence. “…there is nothing. Thanks for asking anyway.”
We ended in an open football field far from our house. “We’re here!”
“We’re going to have a picnic!” He smiled widely and pulled a blanket out of his bag. I didn’t know he had food—junk foods and sandwiches inside his bag. He laid his back on the blanket and motioned me to lie beside him. “Come on.” I smiled and laid my head on his arm.
We just stayed there silent not minding the leaves that were blown by the wind.
“Jisoo?”
“U-huh?”
“What’s with this over-romantic thing that you’re doing right now?”
He looked at me and his face was like super close to mine, “So you think this is romantic?”
I moved a little bit far, “N-no. I said it was over-romantic.”
“Kiddo, it’s the same.” He rummaged my hair. “Well, my reason right now is same as my reason when I did the football guy thing.” He chuckled.
“Oh, I don’t even know why you did that. I mean, besides that you love me.”
“I don’t even know why I did that.” He said while looking at the sky. “…When I saw you in the football field, I was really attracted like a magnet. Like I was the north pole and you were the south pole. I did know you even before that because your grades. You were always in the bulletin board—d”
“Yeah, The F-listers. Wait, you mean everything wasn’t scripted?”
“Oh no, it wasn’t. I didn’t know that it’d lead to this. I was just trying to help you and be a good friend. But you know fate had more to offer than friendship.” I sat and he also did. “…And I am thankful for that.”
Suddenly, I remembered that I couldn’t be attached more to him cause soon I’d leave the place and probably never return.
“Yeah, I am too—” Then I noticed that he was nearing my face and I was so sure that he’d kiss me any second. So before anything else could happen, I spoke. “Jisoo, I need to go home.” Tears were starting to fill my eyes so I immediately looked down so as to cover my eyes. I couldn’t bear leaving the person I love.
I walked away before he responded. “I’m taking a cab Jisoo.”
“You are not Jennie, I’m gonna bring you to your home tonight.”
But I ran away immediately but he, being a football player knew how to run faster than anyone else.
“Jennie, give me a break. Why act like this all of a sudden?” He said as soon as he faced me. “Oh crap, why are you crying?”
I wiped my tears, “It’s nothing. I am just too happy… too happy to know that you love me.” I kissed his cheek. “I love you Jisoo. Keep that in mind always.”
“I know, Jennie, I know. But babe, what is wrong? I know there is something wrong.”
“In a few more hours, I’ll be in the train to Connecticut and I probably won’t return again.” If I could just say those words, I would. BUT the words didn’t come out of my mouth. Instead, “Nothing is wrong. Look I’ll just ring you tonight and see you some other time.” I faked a smile.
He almost pouted because he was familiar with my facial expressions. “Okay.” He kissed my forehead.
Out of luck, a cab passed and I called it. “So, goodbye Mr. Football player.” My eyes were teary. “I’ll call you and I’ll see you… when I see you.”
The cab started to move and I heard Jisoo shout, “Jennie, you know I love you.” He cursed. “What is wrong with ME?!” If there was someone to blame on this, it was me—not anyone else.
I sobbed hard inside the cab.
“I love you too Jisoo, but this is goodbye.”
