“I will now call you cupcake okay?”

“Cupcake eh?”

He smiled at me. “Just a name cupcake. Bye I gotta go… Call Mino okay?”

Cupcake. Three weeks had passed since that night and until that moment, it was still vivid to my mind. Jisoo and I didn’t talk much, but the mere fact that he had a special name for me, was enough to make me smile.

Hey, what did I say?

“Hey Jendeukie. why are you smiling?”  Mino came and kissed me. “Am I in your mind?”  I almost froze. He wasn’t in my mind, in fact, only Jisoo was running in my mind. Oh crap, crap, crap.

Why is my mind like this?! Was that called cheating to my boyfriend?

I felt guilty. “Of course you were in my mind. Always in my mind.”  I pinched his cheeks. “You know, you’re my love, my football player right? Do I have to say that again Mino?”

“I love you Jendeukie and you know that.”

I smiled. “Yea, I know. I love you too.”  When those words came out of my mouth, I felt my heart ache. My heart ached for Mino. I didn’t know why. I knew I loved him—with all of me. But something really, wasn’t right. Really really not right.

“I trust you.” I smiled weakly.

I tied my hair up in a bun and went to Nayeon who was waiting for me outside the CR.

“I like your hair tied like that. You look more beautiful.”

I made a face and looked around. Ever since I met Nayeon, the students around me acted normally—which was abnormal for me. They stopped making fun of me and even almost worshipped me for having friends like Mino, Jisoo and Nayeon. But I guess they were just plain plastics. Nothing more, nothing less.

“Mino told me that he can’t come. They have a football game on October and he needs to practice more. Anyway, Jisoo will be coming with us.”  We walked down the corridor as we approached the exit.

“Yea, he told me yesterday.”  I sighed and we stopped walking. It was a free day for all the students so we had all the time for fun.

“You surely will miss him.” Nayeon gave me a meaningful look. “I mean, you were always with him eh, and he joined you wherever you went. Like, going out without him will be meaningless.”

“Sort of.” I said without thinking.

“Our schools will hold a dance ah. It’s a requirement to come.” She said all of a sudden.

“You mean, our schools joined as one?”  She nodded. “I won’t come.”

“Why not?” I raised my shoulders. “Mino told me he’ll ask you to be his partner.”

I smiled. “Okay, okay.”

“Then my Jisoo will be my partner.” Nayeon said happily. “Oh I can’t wait. I just love that guy. I can’t stop thinking about him. And the thought of the courting process makes me feel giddy. Gosh, he’s courting me!” She closed her eyes as if imagining something. “I’m inlove right?”

“Yeah I guess.”  I said.

She sighed. “You are very lucky with Mino. He’s your football player right? He even hid his identity just to inspire you. He is so sweet. Just thinking about it makes my heart tickle.”

I stayed silent until I felt my spine shiver upon hearing a voice near my ear. “Cupcake.”

Nayeon burst out laughing and I was back to reality. I believe my cheeks were flushed. “He always do that to me, he is a guy full of surprises.”  I looked back and saw Jisoo smiling at me. “He loves to whisper things like hello, hi or hey.”

But never cupcake?

“How long have you been there?” I asked him.

“Two minutes? I hid behind the door.”  he said. “You two were too busy talking about something.”  Nayeon's face flushed. “But I didn’t hear anything… Just the last part.”

Nayeon and I looked at him. “The football player thing, hiding identity, being sweet…? Just that.”   Then, a phone rang. Nayeon groaned and rummaged through her oversized bag. When she found it, she was somewhat disappointed. “It’s mom. Excuse me guys.”  She stepped out of the scene.

“She’s cute.” I chuckled.

“But I guess you’re cuter.”  I heard Jisoo murmur. He was looking at Nayeon.

After two minutes, Nayeon was back with a frown on her face. “Mom wants me to go home. I hate her. She asked me to bring the laundry bag to the shop and that’s what, 10 blocks after our house!”

“I can come with you.” I suggested.

“No. Have fun with Jisoo. I don’t wanna spoil the moment. We waited for him. Go ahead, I’ll be okay.”  She fixed her things. “I really gotta go. I’m sorry Jennie, sorry Jis. Byebye.”

“You’ve known each other for how long? 10 years? Wow, that’s quite long.”  I licked my ice cream. We were the only customers in an ice cream shop.

“Yeah, but Nayeon is older than me. Mino and she are classmates right?”  I nodded. “I think she’s nice.”  He smiled.

“Yeah she’s nice. You two can make a couple.”  Those words came out of my mouth. I saw him raise his head and look at me. “I mean, you’re courting her right?”

He smirked. “Jealous?”

I was taken aback. “Jealous what? Man, I have Mino.”  I defensively said.

He almost frowned. "Oh yeah."  He licked his ice cream. “No, I’m not courting her.” My eyes widened. Oh no. They weren’t in the same boat.

“But—”

He stood. “Come on cupcake, let’s go somewhere refreshing.”

I stood and followed him. “Nayeon thinks you’re cou—” He glanced down to me.

“I treat her as a sister.” He said calmly.

Oh NO.

“You should’ve told her! She’s thinking about you all the---”  For the 3rd time, he cut the sentence off.

“I treat her only as a sister.” He stopped and looked at my eyes. “Understand?”

“But she isn’t thinking that way. She thinks you’re—”

“I don’t like her; I only treat her as my sister.”

Those words would hurt Nayeon like hell.

“Why don’t you—l”

“Are you stupid for not seeing anything?”

I was insulted. “Stupid? The heck. She loves you. I’m not stupid. You are! You are stupid and so insensitive for not feeling anything!”

“Me, stupid? Oh yeah.”  He said. “I am dim-witted. I feel like you know. I am called stupid for not loving her, and stupid too for choosing to love you .”

With that, he stormed out of the shop and I felt like stone carved on the floor.
