There was a tender breeze about the valley. Placing kisses on Taylor's exposed flesh. Her arms, legs, her face, all caressed by this floral breeze that wasn't even there. She knew this, it was easy to tell. When she laid to sleep the night before she wasn't dressed in such antiquity nor was she in a green valley. In fact it was winter where she was. This was something attempting to reach out in a much more pleasant way than she was used too. Usually when spirits invaded her dreams it was in repetition of their ends...some gruesome, some natural, all extremely depressing. Wasn't their fault really. They don't commune in the ways of the living, not anymore. They simply show what they went through and what they needed to move on. This...this was abnormal.

There was such a emphasis on feeling, physically feeling. The blades of grass stung when she tried to run, the sun was pleasantly warm, she had even taken off her sandals to squeeze dirt between her toes. It was cool. Taylor looked about the blooming field, noting the stream flowing gently next to her and looking into it for a reflection. There was nothing. They couldn't remember their own face. It seemed to Taylor that, that didn't matter. It pained Taylor to understand what this spirit wanted.

To feel alive again.

Taylor woke to a pair of disk jockeys laughing over her radio. Her alarms default buzzing gave her anxiety honestly. So she changed it so the radio woke her up at exactly 6:15am. It was a weird time, she had originally set it for 6am even but she figured a rushed morning was worth the extra 15 minutes. Didn't bother to shut her alarm off before hurriedly getting out of bed to find something to wear.

"Well it seems like it's gonna be a cold one, eh John?"

"You tell me. Got temperatures in the negative this morning at a -4°F and that ain't accounting for that wind-chill. Doesn't seem like it gonna let up either the rest of the day...got a high of Z E R O degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon.-"

That shirt was absolutely rank. She threw it back to the floor and dug around for a replacement. All the shirts in her closet were too nice. She'd just thrown on yesterday's jeans. Jeans two days in a row is fine. They're not at all noticeable. Taylor sighed, looking back in her closet.

"- but hey, don't get comfy because we're headed right back to the negative tonight. Got predictions for some nasty stuff so be careful on those roads."

"Oof, they're already rough this morning."

"Got freezing rain tonight Grant. Got those new tires yet? If you've been procrastinating like Grant here, today's the day to haul yer tookus down to Fleeter's Tire. They've got a sale on all weather tred and ColdMaster wipers. On the corner of Hall and Shroomer RD. Get there before the storm hits...and tell em' G&J sent ya."

Taylor settled on a button down floral shirt. Was too fancy for class but at least it was something. And it didn't smell. To be sure she sprayed some aerosol scent about and walked through. Hey, this stuff said it worked on couches so it's gotta work on all fabric...right? What a mess. Ahaha.

She grabbed her bag off the spare bed and a poptart from her desk before heading out. Doubling back to shut off the radio, the walls were so thin here. There was a reason she was so lucky as to have her dorm all to herself. Her dorm mate was homesick and skipped town early to visit her family out west. Missing a day of classes was nothing when the majority of your assignments could be submitted online. Or, that's what her roommate told her. Taylor was here on tuition, she wasn't risking skipping out just yet.

It was damn cold outside. Just a jacket and hat wasn't gonna cut it. But it had too. Along with the converse she'd hastily put on her feet. She went slipping and sliding all the way to the agricultural center across campus telling herself that it was gonna be so warm in the greenhouse when she got there. That it was all gonna be worth it. Little did she know, class was being held in a classroom today sorta. Less of a hands-on experience just before break. If she hadn't been booking it so hard across campus she probably would've seen the announcements on her phone.
