Chapter 30: Trials and Tribulations

Nika's POV

"I'll tell the guys about the plan." Chelsea ran toward the guys who were clearly struggling pushing the door as time goes by.

I looked down at the edge of the building, we will be jumping from this high building. One wrong timing of the jump and your life will flash right before your eyes. I gulped at the thought of that, I guess it's better than being eaten alive by nasty zombies. A hand slipped into mine slowly intertwining their hand with me.

"I know what's going on inside your mind Nika, don't think about any of the possible outcomes that can happen because those are one of the reasons why we chicken out when we are about to take a big risk." Ashley says. I squeezed her hand gently and took a deep breath.

"I'm scared." My voice cracked as I say those words. She nodded and bit her lip then she looked at me.

"I know...we all are. We're in this together, okay? We'll survive." She whispers. I nodded, she pulls me into a hug which I gladly took.

"Hey, Allen said Asher and him will go first then the girls will follow. They said it's better if someone will catch us from the other side." Chelsea says after talking with the guys.

Allen and Asher immediately walked to our way and took a look down the ladder, Ashley helped the other 3 guys holding the door down. Allen dropped down his bag and shook the ladder to see if it's easy to break.

"I think it can support my weight, I'll go first then throw me my bag after." He says.

He slowly went down the ladder, the creaking of every step he took made my heart raise. He stopped where the ladder ended, now it's time for the jump. I noticed he took a deep breath, as he was about to jump I looked away not wanting to see it. After a few minutes, I opened my eyes slowly and looked on the other side.

Allen successfully made it, he stood up and dusted the dirt off him. He ushered Asher to throw his bag over there which Asher did.

"The 7th step is a bit dangerous. You'll have to skip that one." Allen shouts form the other side. Asher threw a thumbs up to let Allen know he heard him.

"Guys hurry they're becoming stronger and stronger!" Leo shouts.

Asher prepped himself before climbing down the creaking ladder, I fidget my fingers together getting anxious about jumping across later. Asher jumped and successfully made it to the other side, my heartbeat is pounding in my chest.

"Nika, go." Ashley ushered me. I shook my head as I back away from the edge, my legs was shivering because of nervousness.

"Hey hey...I-I'll go first. Then you go next alright?" She says, I gulped and nodded.

Ashley threw her bag and my bag to the two guys across from us, she let out a deep breath   before slowly climbing down the ladder. My breathing got heavier and heavier and my sweat thickened as I grew the creaking of the ladder and the pounding and groaning of the zombies on the door. Ashley jumped, and thank God she didn't fall. That means I'm next to jump.

"You can do this Nika...I'll catch you, I promise." She shouts. I let out a shaky sigh and nodded, my feet wobbled as I neared the ladder.

"Don't look down!" Asher shouts.

I slowly climbed down the ladder and counting the steps to avoid the 7th one. I know Asher said don't look down but I still did. The fall would surely kill someone, it looked like one of those dreams where you fall then you jolt yourself awake. I'm having deja vu. I closed my eyes for a brief moment and took a deep breath, I pushed my body to jump as far as I can.
