Chapter 36: Pools of Blood

Nika's POV

I rest my head on the car window, yawning. We've been riding this car for a while now, my butt is starting to get numb. We did see buildings not far from where we are now, the city must be close. It's not the best place to be but what choice do we have?

"Nika, do you think the girl's trustworthy?" Chelsea asks, I blink a couple of times before averting my attention to her.

"It's too soon to tell." I simply reply.

"I mean she did save us from those guys." Chelsea added.

"Or she just wanted revenge because they kidnapped her," I reasoned out. "I'm not saying she's a bad guy but I'm not saying she's good."

"We don't know her that well, I think it's best if we distance ourselves a little bit from her until we have a reason to trust her." Asher says. Everyone hums in agreement as the ride continued on.

"Look there's a pharmacy, maybe we could stay the night over there. It'll be dangerous if we choose any of these big buildings, we don't know what's inside of them," Leo points somewhere. "The pharmacy is the safest place."

Allen drove through the broken cars making sure not to bump into one, he stops the car a few meters away from the pharmacy. He looks around looking for zombies before turning off the engine.

"We should walk from here, we don't want to lure the zombies there with the noise of the car." He grabbed his gun before quietly getting out of the car.

We all followed out of the car with all our belongings. Allen signalled Carmela to follow us, as much as possible I tried not to make noise as I close the door. Tons of car were just sitting there all doors open, trash everywhere, newspapers getting blown by the air. I held my gun tightly while I walk with an alert stance as I follow the group towards the building.

Allen slowly swing the door open and let us all in, the whole place was a mess. Shelves were emptied, medicines, vitamin and other supplements were on the floor.

"Check over there, we'll check over here." Chelsea and Ashley walks to the left aisle while I follow Allen and Carmela to the right aisle, Asher and Leo went to check the middle.

"There's a door over here." Carmela softly says, standing in front of the door she found.

Allen and I walked towards her, it was a gray door that matches the color of the wallpaper with a sign that say 'Authorize Personnel Only'. Allen placed his hand on the doorknob while I stood in front of it with my gun held directly at it. Carmela silently stood on the side since she didn't have any weapon with her. Allen nods at me before opening the door, I walk in quietly as I possible can.

The room was dark, I touched the wall trying to find a light switch. I found it several seconds later and it shone the room with its hazy light. I look around and I was surrounded by thrashed shelves of medicines. There was a blood trail leading to the part of room where the light could not reach, I decided not to follow it because It's never a good idea to follow a blood trail alone.

"It's a storage room. I found a blood trail leading somewhere in the dark side of the room, I didn't want to follow it because It's sketchy." I say, Allen nodded.
