Chapter 22: Close call

Nika's POV

You know the times when you're awake and conscious but you're eyes are tightly shut,
that's me right now. I'm currently half sleeping, I don't know what time it is and what is happening but all I know is that I'm too lazy to open my eyes. Ashley and Chelsea was in the room with me, I cam sense that Chelsea was in the other bed while I think Ashley is at the bathroom.

After a while I heard the bathroom door open and Ashley's footsteps, then I overheard their conversation.

"Chels, do you think we should tell them?" Ashley whispered but it's loud enough for me to hear it from the bed I'm currently laying on, but what are they hiding from us?

"Ashley I don't think that's a good idea." Chelsea whispered back. I moved my head a little bit to hear their conversation clearly.

"But my conscience is killing me! Especially seeing Nika so persuaded to get justice for her sister who got bit!" Ashley whispered a bit louder, Chelsea shushed her for a minute probably to check if had woken up but they didn't know I was already fully alert and conscious the whole time. What are they talking about? Did they have something to do to my sister getting bit?

"But if we do there's a big possibility that we'll lose their trust!" Chelsea said.

I heard the other bed squeak as if she sat. I heard footsteps pacing around the room so Ashley might be walking around. I want to ask them so bad what they're talking about but I stopped myself from getting up. If they thought that if they told us they'll lose our trust then this most be serious, especially when they added my sister and I to the topic.

"That's what you told me too when we first met the 3 guys! But look, we didn't lose their trust." Ashley reasoned. The 3 guys knew this? I had the urge to speak up but kept it all to myself and tried to hear their voices clearly.

"Yeah but these three are different, mostly Audric and Nika. Jake, didn't have any family here, Allen lost his mom from a zombie but his mom was a drug-user so he didn't really care that much for his mother's death , Leo lost his stepsister and stepfather from zombies, but he was relieved because they were abusive for how long was that, 16 years remember?" Chelsea said while Ashley stayed quiet. "But these three are different than them, Audric is the boyfriend, and this will have a huge impact on him. Then Nika, she loves her sister dearly that she's willing to sacrifice herself just to get revenge for her sister, and Asher is treating her like his own sister now."

"I know but we'll lose their trust more if we keep it away from them longer!" Ashley argued back. I gritted my teeth, they probably had something to do with my sister. I clenched the bed's comforter as I thought about my sister's last moments of her life.

"But-"

*Knock* * Knock* *Knock*

"Come on in, What?" Ashley said, asking the mystery person that's outside the room. Then I heard familiar footsteps coming in the room.

"Is she awake yet?" Audric asked as the side of my bed dipped indicating that someone sat on the bed.

I wonder what would happen if Audric didn't interrupt the conversation, I decided to cut my fake sleeping and stretched my arms. Chelsea was sitting on her bed while Ashley was standing up, Audric is sitting beside me on the bed. I rubbed my eyes and faked a yawn to make them believe I was sleeping the whole time.
