Chapter 24: Reasons

Nika's POV

"What?" I said in confusion, I sat on the the head while Chelsea paced through the room.

"Ashley and I was one of the reasons why this...zombie shit happened." Chelsea said still pacing, I blinked my eyes for a few times until I let it sink in.

"What? How? And most importantly, why?" I asked. I shook my head still not believing that Chelsea and Ashley was a part of this zombie outbreak.

"Our parents are well known biochemist at Saint Petersburg, while we were just their assistant," She took a deep breath recovering the memory of what happened. "Our parents and other biochemists was creating a special anti-virus that could kill unnecessary bacteria in human and animal body. 

The anti-virus was working properly and there was nothing wrong with it, we tested it on an ape and it showed a healthy and stable condition. We tested it on a voluntary human subject, and as expected it worked out well. But one biochemist that hated my parents because they were well known than that her.

She knew if that anti-virus went bad, it would give my parents a bad reputation since they were the one who made that idea. While Ashley and I were arranging equipments in the lab, our parents suddenly had a surprise meeting so all biochemist and other scientists will be attending except for Ashley and I. After our parents left the lab, we were just staying there guarding the chemicals. Then she came back to the lab and told us she was instructed to keep an eye on the chemicals.

She ushered us to go and get her some vials from the third floor, and of course Ashley and I trusted her because she was a biochemist. When we came back, our parents and other biochemist are already there testing the anti-virus for the second time on another human subject. But things started to get ugly, our human subject started to act weird. He started to have a seizure and his skin was slowly starting to dissolve showing some bones on parts of his body.

We didn't know what to do, it worked for the first time but we can't explain why our subject started to act and look weird. Biochemist assumed it's either the anti-virus wasn't compatible with some human or someone sabotaged the anti-virus. They suspected us because we were the ones who guarded the chemicals while they were gone, but Ashley and I knew who really messed up the chemical. The bitch did. Our parents asked for 4 guards to go and collect the test subject away from the isolation lab.

But unfortunately the monster we created was stronger than the 4 of them, the monster's smarter than an average human, it's speed is 5 k/m like a sport car, it's strength is like a bodybuilder and a sumo wrestler combined. The monster ripped the protection suit of the guards and infected them by passing it through saliva on the human mouth. That's where our parents ushered Ashley and I to run and get help from other guards. But we were to late, the 4 guards started to have a seizure and they started to have a convulsion.

That's when we knew we did something bad, we created a monster. Ashley and I ran for our lives even if we didn't want to leave our parents, but we needed to live for them and create a cure for this virus we created." Chelsea said, she breathed deeply with tears forming at the edge of her eyes. I ushered her to sit beside me, she sat and I scooted near her.
