Chapter 33:  Distraction

(A/N: It's been awhile since I've updated, so here's a double chapter update for y'all. The next chapter contains a surprise :> hehe)

Nika's POV

I groggily open my eyes to be met by extreme sun rays beaming through the window blinds. I groaned as it hits my eyes, I slowly let my arms lift me to get up while my eyes struggles to adjust to the stunning light.

"What time is it?" My hoarse voice asks whoever was near me.

"It's 12 noon," Someone spoke. "You missed breakfast."

"What?! Why didn't you wake me up?" I opened my eyes and my eyes bulged out as a zombie lunged towards me all of a sudden.

I jolt awake catching my breath caused by the terrifying dream. I held my chest feeling my heart beating fastly than normal, I felt a hand place on my back making me flinch. I turned around to see a freshly woken up worried looking Ashley.

"Are you alright? You just jumped awake!" She exclaims while she rubs my back soothingly. I nodded frantically not wanting to elaborate the situation, I noticed it was still dark outside informing me that the sun hasn't risen up yet.

"I'm okay. Go back to sleep." I whispered not wanting to wake our peacefully sleeping friends. I can clearly see the worry on her face I'm just hoping she'll not make it a big deal.

"I'm just gonna go to the bathroom." I reassure her before heading towards the bathroom.

I locked the door and sighs, I ran my hands through my hair trying to get a hold of myself. Am I traumatized? I thought. That stupid zombie had a big impact on me, I don't wanna tell anyone. I can't. I'll look weak and stupid, no one gets traumatized by a simple zombie right? This is embarrassing. I stared at myself for a quick moment taking a deep breath before going out of the bathroom and heading back to the living room.

I slowly went back to my sleeping position and tried to get the zombie stuff away from my mind. I stiffened as I felt an arm draping across my stomach, I looked behind and saw a pair of worried green eyes. She gave me a sleepy smile and her eyes were slowly blinking like she was gonna get hit by sleep any moment. I turned away and tried to get as much sleep as I could.

In a blink of an eye, I noticed that the sun had already risen up and I didn't get the chance to go back to sleep because my mind wouldn't let me. I got up first, I got a bit jealous how all of them slept peacefully while I couldn't even be comfortable in the first place. I went to the kitchen and boiled up water we could drink for the whole day, I placed them in a container I cleaned that I found in the fridge. I heard ruffling coming from the living room, so I'm guessing some of them are waking up already.

"I wanna brush my teeth but I don't wanna use some old guy's toothbrush." Asher mumbles to himself, he scratches his hair in annoyance and slightly jumped when he noticed me.

"Ah...I didn't know you were already awake, you kinda scared me I thought there was a person stealing our stuff." He breathes out in relief. I gave him a small smile and continued to do my thing.

"We actually didn't think that through last night." I casually say with my back towards him. I heard him say a little huh, probably confused as to what I was saying.

"We all slept at the same time. No one was guarding the doors, yes it was locked and no zombies could get in but humans can. They could easily pick the lock and leave with no trace. We're lucky that nothing was stolen." I explain. I could imagine him being dumbfounded with what I said.
